Tracking the Wild Critters – IOTW Report

Tracking the Wild Critters

Images from:

1) Claudia (Deer) Track found on one of my walks down to our prairie. They like to walk the trail around the perimeter next to the woods.
2) Claudia (Raccoon) He was visiting the front door at night for treats. Nope, didn’t give the mooch anything!
3) Agatha Kakalogical (Horse) They are not really wild critter tracks, but critter tracks nonetheless! In Bridgetown Barbados, they take the racehorses to the sea every morning for a swim. We got to see this ritual on our recent visit to the island. I call this image “Horses Wear Their Shoes on the Beach”.
4) Agatha Kakalogical (Horse) Here’s the horses in the water.
5) SNS (Deer) tracks.
6) SNS (Deer) tracks – and she who made them.

  1. The deer that live around my house are so comfortable with humans they often don’t run away after making eye contact. They usually just continue grazing and wander away. I can’t stand that, so I will clap my hands and shout. Then they jump and scurry away. Maybe I can get a “lunch on the run” photo for 1/29.
    Rats with hooves…

  2. You sure take good track photos, Lady C. I’ve never been able to capture recognizable tracks myself. Just not in my skill set for some reason, so I’m in awe of you who CAN.

Agatha Kakalogical, if the horses walk the beach and swim the water, don’t they do…OTHER…things on the beach and in the water? You may want beach BOOTS instead, if so…

…as for my feeble pix, this little lady is one of what my wife calls “sisters” because there’s a pair of does that always hang out together, but of course we don’t really know if they’re related. I couldn’t get a picture of them together tho. This was right outside my window, they don’t usually get this close but it was -10 that day and obviously snowy, and a girl’s gotta eat so she came up to the bird feeder just out of frame to the left to fight the cardinals for it. I don’t know if a doe can really get her fill on bird seed, but the wife made me put out some stale scratch corn we had for the chickens further out later to help. These things are annoying, especially on the road, but I think of them as potential emergency meals on the hoof as well, just sayin’…;)
