Tragic Kingdom: Disney Will Lay off 28K Employees as California Gov Refuses to Provide Reopening Guidelines

Red State: The fallout from COVID closures continues unabated.

On Tuesday the Disney corporation announced they would be laying off 28,000 employees, about 67% of whom are part-time employees. Disney’s greatest financial struggle has been in their California theme parks. Nearly every other Disney property in the world has reopened (many with curbed attendance caps). California Governor Gavin Newsom retains one-man control over every aspect of life and work in the state and yet refuses to offer one of the largest and most influential job providers in California any guidelines they can be working toward in order to reopen.

Josh D’Amaro, Chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products, sent an email to Disney employees Tuesday afternoon explaining that with no hope for opening the Anaheim park in sight, some tough changes would have to be made. more

  1. All for a regular flu season. I really believe Newsom doesn’t understand where the states revenue comes from. California’s fiscal outlook was grim before all this covid 19 crap started. And ruining the states economy is only going to help Trump

  2. I know it’s a lot of jobs, but I have to wonder who the employees voted for.

Disney can build somewhere else, after selling a few properties here and there. lol. But why bother with CA anymore? Even ‘hollywood’ has been filming in Canada and in other states. CA is not needed for any of this.
And when Newsom’s out of office, he’ll move to Baja, Oregon or Idaho.
Dems treat CA like a science fair project. And none of it is fair to anybody living there. But, again. WHO DID YOU VOTE FOR?!

  3. It’s not just the 28,000 Disney employees. There are probably twice that many in peripheral businesses around Disneyland, and all the people in the supply chain. But that’s OK, Grusome will just hang it on Trump.

  4. Those foreign employees are getting their come uppins. Remember what happened back in 2016 when Disney fired Americans and had the American employees train the foreigners? If Americans refused to do so, then they would not get a severance package. Well what goes around comes around. I feel nothing for Disney! F’em. Deport the foreigners!
