Trump Legal Team: Impeachment Articles ‘Constitutionally Invalid’

Breitbart: President Donald Trump’s legal team argued Saturday that the impeachment articles sent to the Senate by House Democrats are “constitutionally invalid” and should be rejected.

The letter was authored and filed by Trump’s attorneys Jay Sekulow and Pat Cipollone in response to the Senate summons for the impeachment trial.

“The articles of impeachment are constitutionally invalid on their face,” the response read. “They fail to allege any crime or violation of law whatsoever let alone ‘high crimes and misdemeanors’ as required by the Constitution.”

The legal team released its blistering six-page response to the summons on Saturday evening.

“The articles of impeachment now before the Senate are an affront to the Constitution of the United States, our democrat institutions, and the American people,” the letter read.

  1. Ok. Now where is the legal attack on Pelosi, Schiff, et al, for perpetrating crimes against the American people in all this? Where is our day in court? At the very least, the use of gov’t facilities, resources — including all those expensive lawyers — witness per diems, copy machine costs, and the rest, aren’t cheap. When do we get restitution on all this?

  2. None of this would have happened if the republicans hadn’t been colluding with the democrats for decades. We have no representation in congress, just occasional lip service.

  3. Why is that sack of garbage Schiff allowed to skip off without punishment? He’s lied repeatedly throughout this whole thing and continues to.
We’ll never see justice if we’re counting on his “colleagues” to deliver, and that includes judges.

  4. First you have to convince the people. When the crooked media have hoodwinked half the ignorant population to believe he’s guilty, on it goes. No, we’ll never see any of these hoaxers lose their seat in congress much less go to jail or be convicted of treason. This is all leading to our eventual demise.

  5. Of course the charges are a pile of excrement, obtained by fraud, deceit and blatant withholding of information from opposing witness testimonies. This whole farce was illustrated by nasty’s crowing at her signing of the articles and the subsequent parade to present the neatly bound toilet paper to the senate. The only thing missing from the parade of fools was a congress of flying monkeys.
When this crap finally washes out the will be repercussions. I’m going to order more popcorn and watch with glee as heads roll down the aisles of the house.

  6. We need a robust “loser pays” process here. They tried to unseat the president, so if they lose they should lose their seats/jobs.

(I’d suggest lose their heads too but we are civilized, are we not?)

  7. AbigailAdams is dead on right. These coup organizers are hiding in the shadows of the government bureaucracy. They need to be dragged out of the swamps mire and be accountable or hung on a short rope. A coup run on the taxpayers dime needs accounting for its waste.

  8. I still think Trump should appeal to SCOTUS to rule the two articles unconstitutional, even after the Senate acquits..

I don’t think acquittal makes it a moot point. The Democrats are trying to smear the President, and will continue to do so long into the future if they aren’t stopped.

Many Democrats look at this as payback for the Clinton impeachment, but that’s like comparing apples to organgrs. Clinton had committed the felonies of perjury, suborning perjury, and obstruction of justice. Trump was simply executing faithfully the powers of his office.

  9. Remember this gem from Speaker Tom Foley (D)? – “Even though there is no evidence,” he said, “the seriousness of the charge is what matters.”
Now the leftists have hearsay , conjecture, and anecdotes, and they want to prosecute. The Senate needs to send this back to the House until they have some evidence.
