Incels hardest hit: No more cheap Vietnamese blow-up dolls.
And when a nation eliminates tariffs as Israel just did, what benefit will they see?
Here’s an example of the hosing some US-made products get in the EU:

I’m not sweating these moves by DJT, just as the economists and finance, money and business people I follow aren’t. There may be a little early pain, but there’s long-term gain coming from all this. Don’t buy into what they crazies are pedalling.
I don’t understand the so-called “reciprocity” of these tariffs if, say, for example, Malaysia imposes a 47% tariff on us but we have a 24% tariff on them. I look at the tags inside clothing sold in the U.S. and so much of it is made in Malaysia or Sri Lanka (which also has lopsided reciprocity). Same thing for the EU countries and down the line.
Is there a trade expert in the house?
Shop your Goodwill, and other thrift stores. The tariffs have already been paid. I guess.
Weeks ago Trump said there was going to be big news on taxes on April 2nd. He didn’t want to do it April 1st for obvious reasons. So where’s the big tax news?
Abigail,
Reciprocal tariffs are calculated as the tariff rate necessary to balance bilateral trade deficits between the U.S. and each of our trading partners. This calculation assumes that persistent trade deficits are due to a combination of tariff and non-tariff factors that prevent trade from balancing. Tariffs work through direct reductions of imports.
Trump is trying to balance the trade scales, so to speak. The U.S. is being drained of wealth by very one-sided terriffs. If really began under the NAFTA agreement, which Ross Perot described as ‘a giant sucking sound’.
Thanks, Camaro Denny! I didn’t understand the absence of a 1:1 tariff, but I did understand the underlying need for correcting the trade imbalance/deficit. Was wondering how the U.S.’s half percentages are going to provide the incentives. Thanks again!
Rand Paul’s bill to block Trump’s tariffs on Canada passed in the Senate.
I’m getting really tired of Rand fighting President Trump.

I read that Ontario Premier Doug Ford suspended a planned 25% surcharge on electricity exports to the U.S. on March 11, after discussions with U.S. officials.

This seems to indicate that Canada is maybe softening to the idea of dropping some or all their absurd tariffs against the USA after Trump’s plans were announced. In fact, it seems like Trump’s plan all along was to get countries to drop their tariffs. Just my guess.
The corp. I work for just spent a fortune over the past two years moving production from communist china to vietnam. I bet they are scrambling at the corporate office not knowing what to do.
Easy-peasy. Move production back to the USA.

That idiot Grassley is writing legislation right now with the Dems to stop the tariffs. Guys like Grassely and Paul don’t know shit about the economy and I think Trump just proved that today. If these clowns are too stupid to understand the dynamics they should sit down and shut up.
@Bad_Brad:
You’re right – Grassley & Paul seem so short-sighted. This isn’t even four- or 5-dimentional chess – if you look at the number and amounts of tariffs imposed on our stuff around the world you’ll understand what Trump is doing. He’s thinking about his grandchildren and their children and their opportunities for quality employment, which is what the doofuses in the Senate should be doing as well.

Kinda makes you wonder who Paul and Grassley are really trying to protect. Or maybe they’re just trying to protect their growing bank accounts. I wonder what their net worths are? Trump’s already done this once. And they watched. What’s the problem?
@Uncle
Just in time to stop the importation of sex dolls from Vietnam. Perverts will have to find “gasp” living people to help them with their fantasies.
Recently, the sex doll industry in Vietnam started manufacturing AI sex dolls.
