Trump waives interest on federally held student loans ‘until further notice’

FOX– President Trump announced Friday he’ll waive interest on federally held student loans as part of his emergency coronavirus response.

In a Rose Garden announcement, Trump said he’ll take “emergency executive actions” to offer relief to students, many of whom are dealing with shuttered college campuses because of the global pandemic.

“I’ve waived interest on all student loans held by federal government agencies … until further notice,” Trump said as he declared a national emergency over the coronavirus. “That’s a big thing for a lot of students that are left in the middle right now. Many of those schools have been closed.”

The coronavirus has forced a flurry of colleges and universities around the country to close or switch to online-only learning as a way to stem the spread of the new virus. read more

  1. …to answer your question, @flip…

“TRUMP CULTURALLY APPROPRIATES DEAL MEANT ONLY FOR ISLAMIC SCHOLARS IN THE UNITED STATES TO EXTEND TO WHITE SUPREMACISTS ON COLLEGE CAMPUSES NATIONWIDE. CAIR DECRIES OBVIOUS RACISM. OMAR AND TLAIB CALL ISLAMOPHOBIA. HOUSE INVESTIGATING AND WILL REFER ARTICLES OF IMPEACHMENT ‘IN THE NEAR FUTURE'”.

…you see, Muzzies never DID pay interest on this loan, and on many BANK loans, either. Mohammad the Pedophile forbade ursury. The Government and the banks don’t TALK about it, but they DO it, because, racism, or something…

  2. When Trump does something like this I wish he would state the legal and Constitutional authority to do it.

Same with Congress and U.S. Government “Departments.”

But noooooooooo. We don’t cite the law, because then people would realize we’re actually breaking it.

Our “government” is about 95% illegal.

  3. “Anon !,
He has four lawyers around him, the main thing is action. You can take action by researching sll the legal precedents yourself. GOYA.”

There are none, that’s why I wished he would state the legal basis for his actions.

Unless, of course, you’re referring to the things that Obama did with both Marijuana and the border as well as others, and consider them to be valid and legal actions as well.

You really think it was OK for Obama to just govern by dictate when he didn’t like the ways the laws were being used?

I live my life by principles that I apply to all parties whether I favor them or not.

  4. This is one of those times I disagree with our President.

Maybe though with the hysteria and all the closings of colleges, universities and public schools people will realize we really don’t need them. Very doubtful, as it seems most still can’t realize we need to stop all this global bullshit, especially with China and make our own shit.

I’m also starting to see city and county governments even in my own state that are going to bare minimum staff and the rest working from home. Obvious we don’t need most of them either, but I seriously doubt we’ll be seeing government employees losing their jobs.

  5. This shit and cutting interest rates to zero pisses me off. Savers get screwed and debtors thrive. Not the right message. And if he goes to negative rates he might lose me.

  6. I have no empathy/sympathy for them! I “worked the fields” before college and worked while in college: washed dishes, switchboard operator, …. I did not go into debt!
I have felt for 65 years that”No man was ever killed by work” Abe Lincoln.

Because I believe in work I have been conservative for same time. even when I was college YD President!

  7. Pardon my ignorance. What does student loan interest have to do with stopping/preventing the spread of a virus?

This has the exact same effect on me that the closing of Apple stores has… absolutely NONE!
