In a move that some may interpret as an attempt at diplomacy, the government of Tayyip Erdogan offered the release of U.S. pastor Andrew Brunson in exchange for dropping the investigation into Turkiye Halk Banskasi, whose bank official Mehmet Hakan Atilla  was sentenced for his part in the scheme to circumvent currency sanctions against Iran.
