Two officers dead, one injured in Palm Springs shooting; manhunt ongoing

Desert Sun-

Two police officers are dead and one is wounded after a shooting in Palm Springs on Saturday, according to a source familiar with the incident.

Dozens of law enforcement officers are involved in a search for the shooter or shooters in the area of Cypress and Del Lago roads in Palm Springs. Police are encouraging residents in the area to stay indoors while they conduct an investigation.

At 3:15 p.m., multiple officers in tactical gear were maintaining defensive positions behind a four-foot concrete wall as if a shooter were still on scene. Several other officers stood close by an armored vehicle parked on Cypress Road a block south of Francis Road.

Witnesses said they heard between 10 and 20 gunshots from what sounded like machine guns. Over a dozen patrol cars, three fire engines and a SWAT truck were at the scene of the incident at 2 p.m. Palm Springs police and San Jacinto police were on scene.

Frances Serrano, who lives directly across the street from where the shooting took place, spoke to the father of the suspected shooter moments before the incident. The father told Serrano that his son, who has mental issues, had a gun and wanted to shoot cops.

“He came over and asked for help,” she said.

Serrano called the police and the father walked back toward his house. Soon after, Serrano heard gunshots. Later police knocked on Serrano’s door.

At 2:45 p.m., Serrano said two officers were on her front patio kneeling on the ground with rifles pointed at the shooter’s house.

Gerardo Barrera was working nearby in the quiet residential zone when he heard gun shots. “I saw a person on the ground,” he said. “Someone kept pumping her chest but she wasn’t moving.”

He said police arrived right away.

  1. Unlikely BLM was involved. This is a wealthy community, lots of gold courses and high real estate hotels and resorts. I bet the guy is a Mexican due to all the ground maintenance required in Palm Spring. We all know blacks aren’t going to go out and mow a lawn or weed eat.

  2. Emboldened by the President, encouraged by Hillary, sanctioned by the leftists in the MSM, no wonder this sort of thing happens and way too often. Cannot understand why POLICE UNIONS almost always support the left. So sorry for families who’ve had to watch their heroes pay the ultimate price. This grateful, God fearing Conservative is proud to pray the Rosary for our fallen heroes.

  3. Two police officers were killed and another was injured after responding to a family disturbance Saturday afternoon, Oct. 8.
The suspect was still at large.
The officers killed were Jose “Gil” Vega and Lesley Zerebny, 27, said Palm Springs Police Chief Bryan Reyes.
    ‘THEY GAVE IT ALL’
Vega, was a 35-year veteran on the force, due to retire in December. He wasn’t scheduled to work Saturday, but chose to take on the overtime shift.
Zerebny has been a Palm Springs officer for a year and a half. She’s the mother to a 4-month-old baby, and had just returned to the road, Reyes said.
The third officer is alert and talking, Reyes said.
The chief fought back tears when speaking about his officers.
“I’m awake in a nightmare right now,” Reyes said. “As chief of police, I need to step forward and stay focused.
He added: “Today, Palm Springs lost 2 brave officers. They gave it all for you.”

    A FAMILY DISTURBANCE
Police Sgt. William Hutchinson said the officers were met with gunfire after going to the 2700 block of Cypress Road for a family disturbance.
Reyes said the mother of the shooting suspect called 911 at 12:18 p.m., claiming her son was causing a disturbance.
Upon their arrival, officers were confronted by a young man who said he would shoot them through the front door of the home, Reyes said.

  4. How do you tell when you tactical plans are for shit? When you’re people get killed. This is a bad joke, and unfortunately a little kids growing up with out her mother. I question her career choice.

  5. We have police officers being murdered right and left, ostensibly sanctioned by the DOJ, FBI and Homeland…and we’re supposed to be upset that Trump liked to get laid 10 years ago?

Methinks the priorities of our political overlords be skewed.

    May they ROT IN HELL!
