U of Illinois police Want Students To Report ‘bias’ incidents

Campus Reform-

The University of Illinois Police encouraged students and community members to report “acts of intolerance” to the school’s Bias and Assessment Response team and let the police know if they “feel unsafe.”

“Acts of intolerance create an unsafe and unwelcoming environment for campus community members,” the University of Illinois police said on both its Facebook and Twitter accounts. “Remember that you can always report acts of intolerance to the Bias Assessment and Response Team at bart.illinois.edu. Please let us know if you feel unsafe. #ILLINOISsafety.”

The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign’s bias response team defines bias-motivated instances as “actions or expressions that are motivated, at least in part, by prejudice against or hostility toward a person (or group) because of that person’s (or group’s) actual or perceived age, disability/ability status, ethnicity, gender, gender identity/expression, national origin, race, religion/spirituality, sexual orientation, socioeconomic class, etc.”

  1. “…“alert administrators to specific individuals…who would benefit most from diversity inclusion training.” ”

yeah, nothing wrong with that mindset.
I’m going to complain about that very statement.

  4. Is it an act of “intolerance” if your date’s fragrant flatulence mixed with your noxious after shave causes both of you to cough, sneeze and blame each other?

  5. Boobie- I don’t know about that, but I have read that if you cough, fart, burp and sneeze at the same time, you will die. They’re working on a pill for that.

  6. Nobody expects the Bias Assessment and Response Team. That doesn’t have the same ring to it as “Spanish Inquisition,” and I doubt the BART people wear nice red robes and floppy hats – although they should.

Gotta run – there’s a big Orange bus outside hauling folks away for diversity training.

You all have exactly the right idea.

The “bias response team” dictates that “bias-motivated instances” are

actions or expressions that are motivated, at least in part, by prejudice against or hostility toward a person (or group) because of that person’s (or group’s) actual or perceived age, disability/ability status, ethnicity, gender, gender identity/expression, national origin, race, religion/spirituality, sexual orientation, socioeconomic class, etc.

That open-ended “etc.” is simply begging for reports of “intolerance” of ANYTHING AT ALL. I’d focus on conservative and libertarian politics, but according to their own words you could report hostility toward Caucasians (“race”), native-born Americans (“national origin”), heterosexuals (“gender identity”), masculinity (“gender expression”), and working for a good paycheck (“socioeconomic class”).

    Let the games begin!

  8. I anticipate reading about someone being charged with some whacked out imaginary hate crime just for having a copy of last year’s biology textbooks. Psych books, too. They’re dangerous. Turn ’em in! Purge the libraries!
