U.S. begins to withdraw troops from Afghanistan

Just the News: U.S. military forces have begun leaving Afghanistan and will not be replaced, despite the political unrest that threatens the recently signed Taliban peace agreement that has resulted in the troop withdraw.

The initial U.S. troop withdrawal is based on a joint declaration between the U.S. and the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and a U.S. agreement with the Taliban requiring the political-military group to stop its deadly attacks on America’s Afghan allies.

Per the agreement, Washington will try to cut the number of U.S. troops in Afghanistan from 13,000 to 8,600.

  1. And if we leave and they start fighting with each other again, and destroy each other? What then?

Exactly. Let Brazil or some place send troops and money to try and stop it.

  2. This will be one of his best long-term accomplishments. Let the Afghans fight their own battles. If the Iranians, Muslim militants, or Russians [again] want bleed for nothing let them. Let’s start bring home some of our NATO troops, too. Let the EU fuck with Turkey AND the muslim invasion at the same time.

The EU is already starting to fall apart. It would be nice to see Europe with individual nations and cultures even if they start invading each other again.

  3. When the US went there almost 20 years ago, I knew it would not end well. Both the British in the 1800’s and the Russians in the 1980’s were defeated by the geography and the nasty politics. It is too bad about the women and children treated as cattle by the men, but “Hey! It’s their culture.” All the US must do, is ensure that the crap does not get exported to mainland USA.

  4. Although it was a long slog, Michener’s Afghanistan laid out plainly why that place needs to be avoided.
    I agree with Different Tim.
Every piece of equipment needs to come home.
Right down to the tent pegs
