U.S. Mint To Roll Out Diverse Liberty Coins

A new commemorative coin from the U.S. Mint and Treasury features a fresh depiction of Lady Liberty. With a crown of stars in her hair and a toga-like dress, she’s as patriotic as ever. She’s also, for the first time on an officially minted coin, portrayed as a black woman.

The United States Mint unveiled the 24k gold coin in commemoration of their 225th anniversary.
“The 2017 American Liberty 225th Anniversary Gold Coin is the first in a series of 24-karat gold coins that will feature designs which depict an allegorical Liberty in a variety of contemporary forms-including designs representing Asian-Americans, Hispanic-Americans, and Indian-Americans among others-to reflect the cultural and ethnic diversity of the United States,” reads a press release from the Mint.

  1. According to the press release, the individual depicted on the obverse is Liberty.
I’m no numismatist, but it looks like some generic black woman to me. HUGE FAIL.

P.S. Susan B Anthony my eye.

And don’t get me started on postage stamps…

  2. How about a leprechaun? Brian O’Gill? Whale oil beef hooked!
The Irish are forgotten already. Ah well, to be fair, the Irish did
not contribute to American culture as the muslims, Asians, and Africans did. Ochone

  3. Lots of cultural appropriation going on with that coin. For example, isn’t the African liberty figure wearing a Greek gown and star themed wreath on her head? Progressives always find a way to ignore their political correctness mandates when it suits them.

  4. OK. I just went back to the link and find this was done on purpose. To commemorate, you know, “Diversity.”
Which is the opposite of unity.
Which is the whole point of the United States. (A war was fought over it. You can look it up.)
And ironically, “E Pluribus Unum” appears on the reverse.

    Way to go, suckasses.

  5. Whatever these coins will just be stored away and never used. Collectors will hold them. Besides they are a pain in the ass to use. My Hindo grocer gave me one of those dollar coins the other day and I gave it back. Play 718, I said, straight and box, 50 cents, evening numbers. No it didn’t come in.

  6. So the blacks set Americans free, then? Or was America the safe haven that blacks the world over fled to?

It’s actually a perfect commemoration of the ignorance and idiocy overwhelming American in the year of its coinage.

    Sheesh.
