U.S. Virgin Islands Attorney General Denise George is accusing JPMorgan Chase & Co. of turning a blind eye to Jeffrey Epstein’s sex trafficking of minors, according to a lawsuit filed this week in Manhattan District Court.
JPMorgan Chase JPM, +0.07% did not alert authorities and ignored warnings of illegal activities for years while providing banking services to Epstein, according to published reports of the suit.
George requested a jury trial over allegations that the bank took no action against Epstein because of the deals and clients that he both brought and promised to bring to the bank.
The suit comes after the Virgin Islands government inked a $105 million settlement with Epstein’s estate and 10 entities associated with the financier.
A spokesperson for the Virgin Islands did not respond to a request for comment from MarketWatch on Thursday. The bank did not provide any comment in published reports about the lawsuit.
Epstein died in 2019 while awaiting a trail on charges of sexual abuse of minors and human trafficking.
