The federal government posted an unexpected budget surplus in June, fueled by a sharp rise in tariff revenues and higher-than-anticipated tax receipts, marking a notable vindication for President Donald Trump’s economic strategy.
The $27 billion surplus reported Friday by the Treasury Department stood in stark contrast to forecasts for a $50 billion deficit, representing one of the largest upside surprises in recent budget data.
Monthly surpluses typically occur in April, when many Americans file their taxes. Surpluses are also common in January and September. A June surplus is highly unusual. More
OK, Dems! Repeat after me:
He was right, we were wrong.
He was right, we were wrong.
He was right, we were wrong.
He was right, we were wrong.
OK, I’m dreaming. But it’s a pleasant dream.
So let me get this straight. Tariffs are okay for other countries to impose, but bad for the world if the USA imposes them on other countries? Seems to me that shows that the world is stealing from us.
I wouldn’t expect that to be a regular thing. Gotta send more billions to Ukraine and Israel.
So now we can afford more money for Ukraine and Israel?
That’s two months out of the year with a surplus. Now let’s make it 12 months of the year.
From some of the comments I’m reading here, it seems like POTUS Trump’s plank on tariffs and taxes was completely overlooked, disbelieved, or misunderstood.
There is nothing at all surprising about this surplus. Under Trump this is the new normal.
Even if the surplus was only one dollar it is a big plus because it indicates we’re not wildly spending like a drunken, demented Jackass!
Now start on the Northern border security!
@Hey Blinkin! – They’ve been working just as hard on the northern border security. We live in WA state and our west coast is the traffic route from B.C. to Mexico. There are two main border crossing points west of the Cascades and 3-4 on the east side, as well as numerous ports and areas that small craft can pull ashore. It’s a lot of territory to secure.
There is no $27B surplus, it is a $70B deficit. Accounting “trick”.

DaveVA – yeah, we will never be zero debt or deficit. And neither will the average household. There’s no such thing.
Our legislator’s will just see it as money to be spent.
Funny how reality keeps proving Trump right.
There must be a conspiracy between Trump and God.
