Law and Order: Special Victims Unit star Richard Belzer has died at the age of 78.
The actor started off as a comedian, but gained fame for his role as Detective John Munch, first on Homicide Life on the Streets and then on SVU. He also appeared on the original Law and Order and Trial by Jury.
In total, Belzer played Munch on 11 different shows over the course of 22 years, including the X-Files, Arrested Development, The Wire and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.
He died in at his home early Sunday in Bozouls in southwest France after battling a series of health issues.
‘His last words were, ‘Fuck you, motherfucker,’’ writer Bill Scheft told The Hollywood Reporter.
BTW, I am not saying he wasn’t a compelling actor. He was just a horrendous comedian. He would come on late night talk shows and do his act and would be ripping on Reagan well into the 90s.
A real hack.
1992 doing Reagan jokes—
Good for him for going after that fascist bastard Ronald Reagan. RIP Mr. Belzer
He wasn’t the one who co-hosted with Hannity? Because that’s the first thing I thought of “wasn’t he already dead,” but nope it was the other skinny dumb shit that Hannity would unleash on people.
I liked him on “Homicide: Life of the Streets,” of course, I liked the whole show until it started getting too woke.
Ugly on the outside and the inside. A liberal.
Who would of thought his last words would be a shout to Larry?
Never heard of him.
@Conservative4 Cowgirl: Never heard of him either.
I remember him from the 20th. century, but never heard of any of the TV shows mentioned.
A “comedian” of the same ilk as Mudflaps.
I vaguely remember him as a dead fish comedian from back in the day. Keep him in France.
Later for you.
I always figured he suffered from Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. Oh well, bye bye.
coincidentally, just re-watched ‘Scarface’ (the Al Pacino one) yesterday. Belzer was in that one, playing out-of-character as a stand-up comedian in the club where they tried to assassinate Al Pacino’s character … Belzer wasn’t funny in that either.
never liked him; always sucked every time I saw him.
Pro wrestling isn’t fake; it’s choreographed and rehearsed.
He played a stoner in the movie The Groove Tube back in the mid 70’s when I first saw him. And his characters didn’t change much over the years, I always thought of him a stoner.
I remember him most as John Munch in SVU. In and outside of his role he seemed like such a bitter son of a bitch. So I’m not really surprised at his Last Words .
NOW I remember who this asshole was. How the hell was this guy ever considered to be a comedian?
One of the worst comedians ever. And the thing was, he thought he was edgy. In a weird way, he anticipated hacks like Colbert and Kimmel in the sense that he was a liberal stooge who knew he could gain an audience just because they were made up of liberal stooges, too. He did become a talented actor, but, because I can’t stand liberal cop shows I never watched SVU.
Who?
Never liked this leftist, I won’t miss him….
He was a first class, Trump hating, liberal a**h#le. Good riddance.
What about his gig with Sha Na NA?
Oh, wait, that was Bowser…
