I’m not big on 50s music. But the songs I do like I really like. Jimmy Beaumont, of The Skyliners, had the most unique voice of the entire genre, and “Since I Don’t Have You” is a great song.

From a 2009 Pittsburgh newspaper interview:
When Dick Clark put the group on his Caravan of Stars tours, people expected the Skyliners to be a black group.
“At the Apollo Theater in New York,” Mr. Beaumont said, “everyone was laughing and pointing to each other when we came out. They couldn’t believe we were a white group. They got real quiet during the song, then when we went into the ‘you’s’ the women in the audience were all singing along.”
There must have been something wrong with that recording, I was able to understand all the lyrics.
Can’t remember the last time I heard the original. Thanks for posting, it’s great.
Brian Setzer has covered this song.
Yep, him and Tommy Edwards. Who I thought was white when I was young, FDR In Hell.

I(t was very traumatic being able to understand the words, they also had amazing harmony of voices. You would almost think that was planned,
Lovely.
To better days!
His voice was a one-of-a-kind. Loved these guys and that song!
A beautiful song, a beautiful voice. RIP
God, thank you for Jimmy’s talent.
Absolve, we beseech Thee, O Lord,
the soul of Thy servant Jimmy,
from every bond of sin,
that being raised in the glory of the resurrection,
he may be refreshed among the Saints and Elect.
Through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Another voice lost from my youth. RIP, Jimmy.
Jimmy Beaumont did a number of great ones, but don’t overlook the contributions of Janet Vogel. She had an absolutely amazing voice. The only song that I’m aware of that she led on was “I Can Dream, Can’t I” which to this day brings chills:

Poor Janet Vogel.
She deserved better.
Marry well and you will never regret it.
Marry poorly and it will put you in the ground early.
That really is a great song, Fur. Thanks for noting his passing.
