I always thought it should have been titled, “My Rusting Toyota”.
I have seen the translated lyrics before. They are beautiful with, shall I say, a Japanese feel to them. I don’t think a western song writer would have success with that imagery.

A beautiful song regardless of the language. Beautifully arranged and recorded. I loved it the first time I heard it, back in 1963. Sounds even better in stereo.

I remember Bob Dylan with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers playing that song at the Budokan in Tokyo early in ’86; no, they didn’t sing anything, it was strictly an instrumental. But they did a great job of it!
I was in first grade when I heard that song. Loved it right away even though the melody was a bit sad. Definitely sounds like it was inspired by country (USA) music.
