Universities Politicizing Math Problems

Meir Leif, our man about town and correspondent in Israel, sent me an interesting and infuriating sample of how even the math curriculum in universities is politicized.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I’ve been taking courses online at Penn State University, and I noticed something in my text book. Most of the examples they give are in relation to global warming / climate change / rising sea levels. It’s math, not politics; this should be something which is apolitical. Science has been infected, math should have at least been something farther removed. It infuriates me that they have injected politics into even the smallest and inconsequential things in life. And this type of stuff forces the reader (young college students) to think that the examples are all facts, even if in a subconscious way.
24. –  The equation deals with the amount of pollutants an industry has been dumping in a lake. They ask the student to make arguments that the EPA can bring to court to sue the industry based on some graphs engineers made.
25- The question deals with winning the war on poverty and the rate of speed at which the war is succeeding or not.
29- This is a math problem that states “facts” about the rising of the seas due to global warming and you are to work out different equations.
  1. Global warming question:
    You have your choice of a Tesla, a Prius, a Chevy Malibu, or a lifted, dually diesel F-250.
    You are at a four-way intersection and:
    To the North are 12 Antifa members
    To the South are 14 BLM protesters
    To the East are 11 SJW’s
    To the West are 13 pink pussy-hat wearing protesters.
    Take into account fuel usage, MPG, pollution expelled, the distance travelled, and the efficiency with which your choice of vehicle can accomplish your objective. Your task is to find out the smallest impact on global warming it will have to use your vehicle choice to reduce all these knuckleheads’ carbon footprint to zero.
    Show you work and explain which direction you would start with.
  2. Simple Algebra:
    Barbie is on welfare. She gets $450/month for the first child from a father, $300/month for the second child and $200/month for each child after that. What combination of fathers and children will she need in maximize her income without losing out on SNAP, Medicaid, Section 8 housing and her Obamaphone?
  3. Problem: If you saw Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi, and Hillary Clinton all drowning in a river and you could only save one of them, what setting and F stop on your camera would you choose?
  4. The devolution of math problems.
    1968 – If you can pick 8 bushels of peppers per hour, how many bushels of peppers can you pick in eight hours?
    2000 – Global warming increases earth’s temperature by .02 degrees per year due to green house gases emitted by diesel tractors planting fields of peppers. How many years until global temperature increases by one degree? a)5years b)500years c)50years d)25years e)no idea.
    2018 – Growing peppers increases global warming and manually picking peppers is hot hard work done by new Americans from south of the border. How much are your emotions affected by these problems? Shouldn’t undocumented laborers be permitted to vote in our elections to help fix these problems?
  5. Those diesels are TOO economical – you need my lifted ’77 Ramcharger – with it’s 440 V-8 – to squash them, AND make them cry over it’s 7mpg fuel mileage average. 😀
  6. Speech 101
    Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peckers;
    A peck of pickled peckers Peter Piper picked.
    If Peter Piper didn’t like his pecker,
    What Government Department would Peter Piper visit
    to have his pecker picked?
  7. I’ve been an activist on ed issues for years, and this crap comes up periodically. A key reaction should be: REVEAL THE GUILTY. Who is the PUBLISHER of this textbook, and what is the specific NAME of the book or series?
  8. Donald Trump has 2.5 million fewer votes than Hillary Clinton in the general election of 2016 but has 306 Electoral votes to her 232 Electoral votes. Who is the President of the United States of America?
    Bonus question: How long before the FBI, CIA, the Rinos, the Main Stream Media and the Dems try to impeach him?
