UPDATE: Congresswoman’s Aide Caused Fatal Crash

Newser-

Update: Indiana police on Thursday changed their account of the car accident that killed Rep. Jackie Walorski, two aides, and the driver of the other vehicle. Police now say it was Walorski’s SUV—driven by 27-year-old Zachery Potts—that crossed the center line and crashed head-on with a vehicle going in the opposite direction on Wednesday. Police originally blamed the other driver, but accounts from witnesses and video evidence prompted the revision, reports the AP

The two staffers were Walorski’s district director, 27-year-old Zachery Potts, and 28-year-old Emma Thomson, her communications director. The other driver was named as Edith Schmucker, 56.

  1. Pure conjecture on my part. Being on a hand held cellular phone while driving is illegal here my home state of Indiana. That being said, on any given day on the roads here, I always see a person or persons yakking into their phone while driving, sometimes even past a police car. The law is not enforced, at least as far as I have seen. That leaves reason to think her staffer was on the phone while driving. Hell, even a hands free set-up can be very distracting.
