Millions of people across Wisconsin were urged to avoid going outside on Thursday and Friday morning as air quality levels became “very unhealthy.”
The Wisconsin DNR has issued a statewide air quality advisory, calling on millions of residents to limit outdoor activity as smoke from Canadian wildfires continues to degrade air conditions across the state.
Elevated levels of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) present a public health risk, especially for vulnerable populations such as children, seniors, and those with heart or lung disease. The advisory highlights the continuing impact of severe wildfires beyond state borders, raising concerns about the frequency and health implications of such air quality events in Wisconsin and across the Midwest.
A Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) spokesperson told Newsweek that as of Thursday, the DNR has issued PM2.5 air quality alerts for 16 days this year, the most alerts in at least four years. More
Chicago reported to have the worst air quality in the world yesterday. Here
Today’s EPA Air Quality Map (use the PM2.5 filter to see what we’ve been putting up with all summer). Here
We had the same problem earlier this year – air quality reduction due to Canadian forest fires. Don’t know what’s going on up in the not 51st state, but it ain’t good.
Believe me when I tell you it’s like a fog up here in Northern Wisconsin. My eyes water and itch and I can feel a tightness in my chest along with an urge to cough and clear my throat. The sun looks like I’m viewing it through orange sunglasses and the sky is overcast but not a cloud in the sky.
Good thing Canada subscribes to green energy and destroyin their industrial base to save the planet. These fires seem to be getting more frequent and more unctonrolled. Can they no manage their forests like California?
I expect this to go on until winter at this point, but the sunsets are spectacular.
Pretty bad in the Twin Cities as well – can smell the smoke and everything’s in a haze.
Damn communists to our north are likely intentionally burning nature to … save nature… pfft!
MI dealing with smoke haze and periodic air quality alerts thanks to Canadian wildfires.
Meanwhile, Canada is getting smoked by Trump.
I’m Northwest (50 miles+-) of that “Chicago reported to have the worst air quality in the world yesterday.
No I won’t go into the city, but claim BS.
Hazy, yes, but worse when many burn their leaves in the fall.
Mostly faer porn here. Further north not so much and is my understanding they’re just letting them burn with no attempt at containing or putting them out. Oh Canada
If those fires were coming from Mexico the smoke would smell like burning marijuana.
In the paleontological record, VERY large sections of North America have burnt up in the same time frame.
Get your 20×20 furnace filters for your floor fans while you can. Run several around the clock if you need to. They work. Don’t forget the duct tape.
We’re indeed blessed this year — so far — not to have any big fires up in British Columbia. Two summers in a row we were beset with incredibly smoky air and ash! One night you could see the ash falling through the light of the street lights. The smoke was really thick and prolonged. As we have no whole house A/C, it was hard keeping the windows and doors closed at the height of the summer heat.
Turns out — just as for the fires in Canada north of the northeast U.S. — many of them were arson fires. How sick do you have to be to burn down forests and threaten the lives of all those critters? The craziest part is that these eco-terrorists claim man is the cause of carbon output and global warming. Just like the Left to manufacture the crises they blame others for.
Looks like all the ‘hood is grilling these days.
It was the clearest it’s been in some time here in SW Michigan. We still have an air alert, but don’t see any smoke or smog.
Where exactly is the fire in Canada that’s causing this?
