US Marines arrested for smuggling illegal aliens, drugs through US-Mexico border

ABC: An investigation into Marines accused of helping smuggle migrants into the United States led to the arrest Thursday of 16 of their fellow Marines at California’s Camp Pendleton, just north of the U.S.-Mexico border.

In a dramatic move aimed at sending a message, authorities made the arrests as the Marines gathered in formation with their battalion.

None of the 16 Marines were involved in helping enforce border security, the Marine Corps said in a news release. They are accused of crimes ranging from migrant smuggling to drug-related offenses.

The arrests came weeks after two Marines were arrested by a Border Patrol agent on suspicion of transporting three Mexicans on the promise of money after they crossed illegally into the United States.

The military said the investigation helped authorities identify the 16 Marines arrested at the largest Marine Corps’ base on the West Coast, about 55 miles (90 kilometers) from San Diego’s border with Mexico.

Retired Marine Lt. Col. Gary Barthel called it a “kind of black eye for the Marine Corps” and said it was important the military show criminal behavior will not be tolerated.

  1. Other Marines I detest: John Murtagh and the idiot Mueller.
In the movie “Heartbreak Ridge” we aw a Marine Corp that didn’t give a fuck until Gunney Highway came on the scene. All bullshit.

  2. Our military draws its members from our society. Every single vice, or virtue you observe at large is reflected in every branch of our military.

One difference, these people violated a sworn oath civilians are not subject to. And for that, for the oath to remain with meaning, punishment needs to be harsh. These few have dishonored their fellow Marines.

I hope the Corps handles this in a manner that reinforces how serious that oath is.

  3. Aiding and abetting just like congress dems and sanctuary states and cities and hollywood, etc. except not for a fee. Bit still aiding and abetting! Lets see what punishment they get.

  4. I have known a number of Marines in my lifetime, (25 maybe 35, through my Marine brother), since 1964.
I have little doubt they would all be offended by these anti-American low-lives that dare to turn their back on this country.

I am confident the offenders had to be quickly removed from the true Americans…..for their own safety.

  5. I generally give the benefit of the doubt to those who have served. But it is not always deserved. Mostly it is, but amongst thousands and thousands, maybe milliions at this point, there are bound to be a few bad apples.

Which reminds me of the joke about the first Marine to sign up at Tunn’s Tavern, handing the pen to the second guy in line, saying, ‘it ain’t like the old Corps’.

  6. And THAT my friends is where the title EX-MARINE comes from. Once you disgrace yourself, and the Corps and are subject to a BCD (Bad Conduct Discharge) you will be “Drummed out of the Corps” and can no longer claim the title U.S. Marine!

  7. I wouldn’t want to be in their shoes if left alone with other Marines after selling their souls to the cartels for a few bucks and disgracing the Marine Corps. I’d be like a pedophile in prison.

  8. Lemme see: Who was the president when those guys joined the Marines? Did they bring more disgrace to the CORPSE than Meuller brought to the FBI, or more disgrace to the office of the President than the seditious gay Kenyan commie? Seems to be a trend here…

  9. Two of my sons were in the Navy out in San Diego just before Obama got elected. They told me about how many of the Navy guys would marry girls from the Philippines for money just so they could get into the US. The going rate was eight grand. Divorce followed after the required time and the girls were in like Flint and they began the process of getting all their relatives here, too.
