Thomas Massie Leading Charge for ‘Amexit’ From the UN
The Libertarian Republic – Congressman Thomas Massie (R-KY) is pushing for the United States to leave the United Nations. Dubbing the proposal ‘Amexit,’ Massie has signaled his desire for the House to vote on a bill which he has cosponsored. That bill, the American Sovereignty Restoration Act, would allow for the United States to leave the United Nations.
First, the bill would stop United States payments to the United Nations. Currently, the United States spends around $8 billion on the United Nations through mandatory and voluntary contributions. The bill would only allow those funds to be used to “facilitate termination of United States membership and withdrawal of United States personnel and equipment.”
Second, the bill would prevent United States forces from serving under United Nations command. Having American service under foreign command is problematic. As rare as this is, it has happened. Though many say U.S. troops have never been under foreign control, hundreds of troops have served in the Multinational Force in the Sinai, which has been commanded by non-Americans.
The legislation would also terminate diplomatic immunity for foreign United Nation members within the United States. Any member of the United Nations would not be “entitled to enjoy the privileges and immunities of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of April 18, 1961.”
In addition, Massey’s bill would close the United Nations’ headquarters in New York.

I often wonder how the world might change if one of those kinetic projectiles from the ’50s (that Jerry Pournelle and Boeing wanted to put in orbit) fell out of the sky on the UN one Sunday morning about 4AM. Guess we could call the new pond the “45th Street Basin”. I would never wish any harm on NYC, but technically the UN isn’t part of NYC now, is it?
