USPS To Be Insolvent In Five Years

The Hill

The United States Postal Service (USPS) will run out of cash in five years. Postmaster General Megan Brennan shared this news in testimony before the House Oversight and Reform Committee earlier this month. The immediate consequence of USPS becoming insolvent would be that the world’s largest postal system — which moves 150 billion mail pieces per year, or 412 million pieces per day — would be dead in the water. This is something that has never occurred in the Postal Service’s long and storied history. More

  1. I disagree with the above, bureaucratic stupidity and blindly following rules.

How about two delivery days a week, make all postal employees part-time.

  2. Sounds like the USPS is in the same pickle as Canada Post. The postal union agitated for and received many settlements in the 1970’s, 1980’s and 1990’s which gave increased pay, benefits and very rich pensions. I think the service was blindsided by e-mail deliveries (I receive all my utility bills by e-mail and pay through by bank) and the rise of private companies delivering parcels. Change always happens, you must be prepared for it.

  3. A little story, however I do not know if my Amazon package was delivered by USPS or by FedX or other.
But Amazon will probably assess the cost of the product against the delivery method, thereby stealing the money from the deliverer or their insurer.

I ordered a 6 pack of canned palm heart “noodles” from Amazon. The shipping boxes were in perfect condition, not smashed nor even a dent in the boxes. I complained that the cans themselves were horribly dented and therefore unuseable. This was a product that could not be returned.

I was sent an email saying I will get a refund because the product was damaged during transit.

No, not during transit Amazon, you sent a damaged product that had to be damaged on the production line.
I made that abundantly clear. Is this how Amazon recoups their money?
We ultimately are the ones who pay.

  6. It is a system truly designed by geniuses and run by idiots.

Worse, their middle and lower management people aren’t the sharpest tools in the shed. But worse, they have attitudes, naturally.

  7. P.O. lost me when 2-tours, shot-up, shot-down Viet Nam Vet with worthwhile college degree passed over for promotion 3 times because P.O. did not have enough blacks, females, minorities, or homos in management positions. None of those Affirmative Action hires had Military service or college degrees. One did not have a HS diploma, one had a Police record.
