I don’t know Owen Gleiberman, chief film critic for Variety and I haven’t seen “Unplanned,” but I know a hit piece posing as a film review when I read it.
No where in the review does Gleiberman find fault with the quality of direction, acting or writing. Despite this lack of description of anything about the production itself, Gleiberman condemned the film as “propaganda.”
The film critic offers up such gems of film review such as, ““Unplanned” preaches to the pro-life choir, and it does so by making a case against abortion that’s absolutist and extreme, at certain points twisting “facts” into a narrative of conspiracy. (Planned Parenthood is portrayed as a corporation as profit-driven as Standard Oil.)”
He quickly adds, “But “Unplanned” also does a skillful job of using religious piety to conceal its underlying political agenda.”
Then there’s this rationalization in the last paragraph, ” Planned Parenthood is as imperfect as any bureaucracy, but the idea that the agonizing decision to have an abortion, for tens of thousands of women, is being secretly guided by the profit motive is a distorted and arguably paranoid view.”
Wow, who’s calling who propagandist, Mr. Gleiberman? More
The more the Left tries to dismiss and suppress something, the more I believe it is true and should be considered.
Owen sounds like a paid shil.
Well, the left managed to impose an R rating, so the very people the film is aimed at can’t see it. Although they CAN get an abortion without parental consent.
sure they will work to have the movie be a failure.
The movie has an ‘R’ rating, which is restrictive but it does allow a child under 17 to view it, if accompanied by parents. This movie itself is about abortion. It is planned parenthood’s practice to perform an abortion on a 14 year old without parental presence or even consent. But viewing a movie about such an abortion by those under 17 is restricted. They really don’t want this movie to be seen, or their contradicting restrictions to be known about.
“Planned Parenthood is as imperfect as any bureaucracy, but the idea that the agonizing decision to have an abortion, for tens of thousands of women, is being secretly guided by the profit motive is a distorted and arguably paranoid view.”
And how, exactly, does this fit into a movie “review?”
I didn’t see the movie (and probably won’t) but to attribute a “profit” motive to Planned Parenthood is doing a great disservice to one of the more truly JUST PLAIN EVIL organizations on Earth – I am fairly certain that the operators of Planned Parenthood would relish the murders of the innocents regardless.
Amassing a fortune in the furtherance of evil is an extra added attraction – not the main thrust.
izlamo delenda est …
Variety? Isn’t that Hollywoods’ Bible?
Gleiberman supposedly sat through film and all he could think about was how to counter the film’s message, not whether or not it was true or the authenticity of Abby Johnson’s life time experiences.
So, Mx. Gleiberman runs Planned Parenthood? To know what the lordx of Planned Parenthood really think. And his statements about “Unplanned” are, therefore, not propaganda?
Or, like our Professional Betters, is he just making lies up?
What else can you expect from the corrupt pervs of hollywood?
he be doin’ dat man-‘splaining’ thang
he should be careful when he steps in doo doo- it can get quite deep
I may be a little behind the times here. Is he allowed to talk about abortions? Men can do that again?
And- seeing how he is a hollywood critic, writing about abortions, I have to ask-
If someone walks out of a movie before the end, was it even a movie?
Please go see this movie! I NEVER go to the movies, but I did today for “Unplanned”. I’m not a crier, but was glad to have tissue with me and wearing waterproof mascara. I have always been Pro-Life, so didn’t realize how much this movie would impact me….heck, I went just to support a movie that was a big old stick in Planned Parenthood’s eye…but I got so much more. The movie is Powerful, and it is very well done. There’s not a boring moment in the film and it grabs your attention from the beginning.
Toby – who claimed that was a ‘man’?
^^^ me
“Toby – who claimed that was a ‘man’?”
well, I damn sure ain’t gonna say it was me. You can go to jail for that kind of stuff in today’s world.
Must have been a little birdie or something
When I saw a movie titled Unplanned was playing at local theaters I did not know what it was. When I looked it up online several of the search results were reviews of the movie. Most of them were not much different from the review hit piece that is the subject of this blog post. I doubt these type of reviewers are appalled when they hear a news report or watch an episode on ID channel of a brutal murder and the victim is dismembered.
