Vegan Impossible Burgers Increase Risk of Diabetes and Heart Problems

DM-

They’re said to be low in fat, good for cholesterol and an overall healthier choice than the real deal.

But a new trial suggests that plant-based fake meat products are not in fact a nutritious choice – and could increase the risk of heart disease.

The study, published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, found that people who ate a diet high in fake meats like Beyond burgers and Impossible burgers for eight weeks had higher blood sugars than those who ate real meat.

This puts them at higher risk for developing heart disease and diabetes down the line, the authors wrote.

Bottom line?

Eat wtf you want. You’re gonna die. It’s. not how long you live, it’s how much you enjoy life.

  1. Had a gal friend back in the day that was vegetarian. Went out for pizza with her and they had to bring the pizza to the table uncut because of her concern the pizza cutter may have previously cut a pizza containing meat.

Ever try cutting a hot pizza with a butter knife? Not fun. Nice gal and a good person but that was enough for me.

  2. IGNORE THE STUDIES, KNOW YOUR NUMBERS, MANAGE YOURSELF

IF YOU BUY IN TO WHAT THE “EXPERTS” SAY, YRS LATER THEY’LL REVERSE THEIR FINDINGS AND YOU WILL HAVE JUST WASTED A DECADE OR TWO MISSING OUT ON THE GOOD STUFF AND FUN TIMES

  3. Speaking of veggies. Already found some morel mushrooms in my neck of the woods (SE Michigan). That’s about a month earlier than usual. Never have found them before May.
We’ve had a very mild winter this year. My Magnolia is also in bloom and that usually happens late May/early June.

  4. In the era of the Biden economy, “Eat wtf you want” has it’s limits.

I don’t eat that crap anyway but I don’t share the animus that some do over plant based products. Choice is always preferable and if someday they can come up with a fake burger that tastes like the real thing, is better for me and is cheaper, I could be a convert.

  5. You can walk the line on nutrients, vegetables and ‘healthy’ foods while allowing some ‘feel-gooder’ dictate your life or…

You can eat what you like, when you like and tell the world to fuck off.

    Your call.

  6. Okay, you want to eat smarter? Start making gourmet salads + dressings to go with your meat and seafood dishes.

Dressings should include both olive and avocado oils and at least two kinds of vinegar. Lots of spices (garlic, ginger, Italian blends, etc.) and seasonings (various peppers, salt). Experiment with balsamic vinegars and crushed fruits and nut oils.

And steam up your favorite, cubed sweet potatoes and smother them with butter, garlic, pepper, Italian spices (a staple around here!) and the best shredded Parmesan cheese your money will buy.

Then watch the pounds come off as you begin to also eat those salads for morning brunch or afternoon snack!

Put the salad on your plate, smother it with your perfected dressing and plop that sauteed, teriyaki salmon, or cod, or rockfish, or flounder/sole, or scallops, or prawns, (or ??) right on top of it!! Serve with the best Italian bread.

I’ll be here all week sharing cooking tips.

  7. I know I’ve said this before, but the old food pyramid is upside down. It had Meat and fish at the top where you are supposed to eat the least amount. Breads, pasta, and cereals were on the bottom where you eat the most.

They should be in the exact opposite locations. Meat should be eaten at least once or twice a day, where breads, pasta, and cereals eaten rarely, along with sugar.

Also, add block cheese as a good food item, somewhere near the daily intake section.

Vegetables and some fruits are somewhere in the middle.

You will notice that the old pyramid wanted us to eat more processed food. BAD. That’s where we started going wrong as a society. You wouldn’t believe the additives (like sawdust, bugs, chemicals) they put in them to stretch the “food” so they can charge more for less nutrition.

  8. Salads? For breakfast?? Cubed potatoes? Yuck-the-fucking-O

Grass finished beef, game, pastured pork, wild caught fish and my chicken & eggs. Keep them oils and lettuce out of here.

  9. Dr. Atkins, Atkins diet guy, was correct. He had his heart patients eat meats and fats because you need the good fats. Shy away from the low-fat craze back in the day for his patience. The claim was that the food industry pushed the low-fat craze so their products would have longer shelf life. IDK if that’s true.

  10. I don’t understand the entire fake meat paradigm.

Similarly to fake beer – fake men – fake women – fake judges – fake conservatives – fake democrats – fake politicians – fake preachers – what’s the point? Why not stand up and be counted among those of your beliefs?
    Is it mockery?
If you don’t want to eat meat, then why try to fool yourself by eating some weird concoction that looks like meat instead of eating a bale of hay? Or some handfuls of grass?
Is it to lure in the non-zealots?
    To deceive?

    It makes my head scratch.
