Wake Up With Steely Dan – IOTW Report

Wake Up With Steely Dan

The iconic girl backup singers in a rock band is almost a thing of the past. These two are great.

  1. Steely Dan was the last concert I went to. Was a couple years prior to Beckers passing. One of the best live performances I’ve seen. The other was Pink Floyd.

  3. Mostly studio musicians on their albums.
You’ll find their names on lots of music.
Alan Parsons is another who mostly worked with studio musicians and never really had an actual “band”.

  4. Saw The dan in ’73 in El Paso, TX. They were second billed with Mason Profitt and the posers Sha Na Na. After those to openers Sha Na a was at best a bad joke.

Saw The Dan again in 2003 at Hershey, PA. A completely different band by then but still great. Jon Herrington was handling lead guitar then and he was as good as Baxter and Dias were back in the day. Cornelius Bumpus (RIP) was lead sax guy too. I saw a video where Larry carlton said that Herrington had to teach him all the parts hLarry played on ‘The Royal Scam’ it had been so long.

  5. TRF, Thanks for the link, it was great to watch all the instruments being played. That a great play of My Old School and led me to their channel for seconds. πŸ™‚

  6. I love Skunk, but the studio version of Reelin’ in the Years is not him playing lead. It’s Elliot Randall. Randall used a stratocaster, while Baxter used a Telecaster in this video. You can actually hear the different tone.
