Walgreens posted a short statement on the issue, which says, “We are joining other retailers in asking our customers to no longer openly carry firearms into our stores other than authorized law enforcement officials.”
The announcement comes two days after Kroger and Walmart both banned open carry in their stores.
A developing trend, and a “tip of the iceberg” or “point of the spear” type of thing.
One that is gaining impetus and one that shows the direction our country will be taking.
Time to figure out how to deal with it as it develops.
I expect nothing less from corporatist (aka Fascist) American companies.
How are they going to ban open carry in their stores? Is some low level, unarmed, supervisor going to tell someone with a gun they have to leave? Maybe says that they can’t open carry, so the offender says okay. Then pulls his shirt/jacket over the pistol? The gun is still in the store.
Oh FFS, just go ahead and put the NO FIREARMS stickers on your door already, you’re not fooling anyone.
…those bottles of Tylenol on your shelves have killed more people than all the legally owned firearms in the U.S., just sayin’…
…also, a firearm, if illegally used, can kill people, but if legally used can save people.
Just like your drugs.
Gonna ban open pill carry in your stores, too? Those things sure can be dangerous and scary in the wrong hands…
These companies seem to buy into the leftist bulloney that most Americans don’t own firearms or carry them.
Gillette lost billions pushing toxic masculinity and promoting men being feminine (like public skools have done for decades) and now these companies are putting themselves on the same path.
Are the pharmacies in these stores going to stop selling pharmaceuticals that have been proven to cause thoughts of suicide and violence?
Pretty soon they’ll want us to go to the Pharmacist with a prescription for the bullets!
I have a Walgreens a block from my house. About 8 months ago I went to buy a 12 pack of beer to refresh a couple guys helping me on some roof work. When I got to the register they asked for ID. No big deal I thought and handed over my license. (My drivers license is a little different than many. Living on the border with Canada and visiting often as my Mother remarried and now lives there, I have what is called a Enhanced Drivers License. It carries a lot of digital info on me. Takes the place of a passport for the purposes of cross border visits) The clerk began to digitally scan my drivers license. Stopped her and asked what she was doing. Told me it was corporate policy for any purchases requiring ID. Explained the purpose for providing ID was to verify my age not to give their store a chance to digitize and sell my info. Took my license, left the beer and left the store. Never been back. Screw convenience.
I no longer ‘open carry’ myself into Walgreen’s!
That should be an effective way to keep mass murderers out of stores. They are known to be diligent rule-followers and sign-readers. Problem solved.
Walgreens is a de facto government agency. They work so closely with law enforcement that you need a Bill of Rights to interact with them.
It would be just as easy and just as effective to put a sign on the door: “Killing our customers is prohibited”.
Welp… Problem solved.

“Maybe says that they can’t open carry, so the offender says okay. Then pulls his shirt/jacket over the pistol? The gun is still in the store.”
In a state like Ohio that doesn’t have Constitutional Carry, if you don’t have a CCW card, that simple action can make your carry an instant felony, so you might want to be careful about that if you’re not familiar with State law at whatever Walgreens you’re in…
The gun grabbers are following the tobacco model to usurp 2A. Chip, chip away.
Open carry just means you’re the first guy to get shot. I’m not a fan of the restrictions but I only open carry on the range or in the woods, so no loss to me personally.
It’s OK, I always carry concealed; but it’s nice to know who the ENEMIES of our RIGHTS are.
“asking our customers”
Just say, “NO”!
If you live in an open carry state, what can they do? (That’s a serious question. Can any establishment over-ride a state law?)
Claudia, Texas has this covered for the businesses. They can refuse open and conceal carry on their premises. But they must post a particular sign near all entry points for you to potentially get in legal trouble.
I don’t open carry, but I ignore home made “no guns” signs. They carry no legal weight, but they do warn you of potential trouble from the management.
Dadof4, thanks for the info. No wonder it’s such a difficult issue when each state and each establishment can create their own rules to subvert the 2A. Traveling across the USA must be a headache for all who carry (open or concealed).
I would never open carry, but if it’s legal, I don’t have a problem with someone who does. This whole “company policy” is BS.
Carry in a flap holster, just to mess with them.
Never shop Walgreens, Kroger and Walmart.
I don’t because too many fat f*cks have too many places to hide shit.
A law against open carry is not going to stop a mass shooter. There is no reason why it would.
It will stop an open carrier from stopping a mass shooter, is what it will do.
Can anyone actually believe the following scenario would happen: A man intent on killing a bunch of people goes into a Wal Mart armed with an AR-15 and an automatic pistol. The store manager sees him and says “Sir, we don’t allow guns in this store”. The shooter says: “Jeepers, gosh, I’m sorry…I forgot”, and leaves the store. Dumb-ass liberals might believe that would happen.
