Wash U Finds Link Between Air Pollution and Diabetes

U.S. News And World Report-

“Our research shows a significant link between air pollution and diabetes globally,” said study senior author Dr. Ziyad Al-Aly. He’s an assistant professor of medicine at Washington University in St. Louis.

“We found an increased risk, even at low levels of air pollution currently considered safe by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the World Health Organization,” Al Aly said in a university news release. More

  1. Sweet! Now that I know why I’m diabetic, I’ll go buy a shit ton of air filters instead of insulin. Thanks for the tip, assholes!

I fucking hate these people. I haven’t said a word out loud yet, but they have me text cursing already this morning.

  2. diet and exercise, exacerbated by BMI and possible genetic pre-disposition.
so, by their reasoning, cities in China should be rampant with diabetics.
    They aren’t.
Probably spent federal dollars for the study, too.

  3. That is a weak link.

It has been conclusively established that all (not some, but all) diabetics were borne of women.

Ergo…to rid the human race of diabetics…well, you know.

    Just sayin’.

  4. These researchers need to isolate air pollution as the only causal factor. Take people from a clean air environment and put them down in Mexico City. Then feed them the same diet and give them the same about of physical exercise each day then check them for diabetes.

  5. There is a correlation between professors wanting governmental research funding and professors reporting wildly controversial findings that will drive government funding

  6. @Extirpates–well it is a well known fact that life is the leading cause of death……without life, death would not exist.
Where do I collect my bazillions for research to prove it?

  7. Oh my God, it’s all the fault of free market industry, backyard BBQs and tobacco smokers!
When, oh when will they tax this evil perpetrated on us unsuspecting humans?
I’m searching for a Blood-Pollution meter as we speak. I sure hope GoodRx has a coupon for the strips.

  8. The Sun sets after I eat my dinner – EVERY SINGLE DAY!

Youse guys best hope I don’t miss dinner! The Sun just be hanging there in the air, and shit …

  9. I know how to eradicate every illness, disease, infection, condition, defect and syndrome suffered by humankind. At the same time I can end pollution, urban blight and, possibly, Climate Change as well.
    My solution? Kill everybody.

    Now, where’s my Nobel Prize?

  10. Anecdotal: I am Type 2. My sister is not. We share the same father and mother. We grew up in the same environment eating the same foods, breathing the same wonderful red dust from the steel mills when they were producing full force.

I call b.s. on the study based on my “study” which cost no one anything.

  11. I remember as a kid driving on a highway around the outskirts of Gary, Indiana on the way to Illinois, and seeing the rust color air in Gary from the steel mills.
I guess everyone in Gary from birth on suffered from diabetes using that nimrod’s theory.

  12. New research suggests it might increase the risk of diabetes, even at levels considered safe.

“suggests it might” are the weasel words so beloved by academic researchers. They can sneak away when their research is proven to be a crock.
