FT– Throughout the prolonged showdown between Greece and its creditors, the Obama administration has largely sat on the sidelines, issuing the occasional warning about the potential economic impact of a default.
But with Greece now on the verge of bankruptcy, the US is also beginning to worry about the political fallout from a deeper crisis and the potential for Russia to gain increased influence over a Nato member. more
Washington fears. Obama cheers.
Haven’t we seen this movie before after the end of World War 2 when in the late 1940’s Truman and Churchill kept the communists from taking over Greece. It’s deja vu all over again!
Given the lunatics that the Greeks have put in power over themselves and the damage they’ve done for decades, I’m having a hard time grasping just what “we” lose if Greece becomes a drain on Russia instead of the U.S.
I don’t understand making concessions with creditors when it comes to an entire country. If they can’t agree with creditors and the creditors tell them to go piss up a rope, the country becomes no longer a country and the creditors have no chance to get anything. It probably stems from my ignorance living in USA where we just print money whenever.
And I’m trying to figure out how Russia can give Greece money, when it was in terrible shape a year ago and now getting creamed by low energy prices. I suppose they can just print more money, but who will accept it?
The U.S. should just tell Russia,
“μολὼν λαβέ” (“Molon labe”).
And this is how the Greeks are scamming to get the US taxpayer to cover their debt. They know our asshole leaders just too well.
Let Russia have that worthless shit hole. Maybe someone close to Putin will splain the concept of Buyer’s Remorse after Greece sucks the Russian treasury dry. Dumb ass Greeks are whining now, just wait til they have to face reality like Venezuela did.
Sorry, Judge, the Greeks will be hanged by the tit if Putin “gives” them any money. With all the whiner, slacker entitlement types in Greece, and Obama’s ‘red line’ diplomacy, we’ll just sit back, watch, and sent tweets. Greece will become Putin’s latest gulag. Serves ’em right.
they owe 240 billion ! euros mr.ponzi would be proud
