  1. Glen Campbell was able to work and collaborate across genres. Oh man, thinking back to the Ralph Emery shows and Glen’s own show and so many other shows makes me misty eyed.

  2. Not only was Glen Campbell under appreciated but I think Wayne Newton is as well. I’ve seen him a couple of times Vegas (30 years ago) and the guy did a great show!

Oh man! Wayne Newton was so underrated in my opinion.

My oldest daughter was all Dusty Springfield through the age of three or so, then along came Glen Campbell. Ten years later and we still never make a road trip without listening to a few Glen Campbell albums.

  4. Glen Campbell was a phenomenal musician & absolute great guitarist

check out his duets w/ Roy Clarke (another underrated talent) … while you’re at it, check out Clarke’s ‘Malaguena’

met Campbell one day back in the mid ’70’s when I was doing the electrical work at a office/hotel complex w/ a golf course. he was touring in the area & was a guest for a celebrity golf tournament. very nice, polite guy & very relaxed w/ the ‘hired help’ … we talked about guitars, cars, history & celebrity status … good laughs, good times, good guy

Fun times!! Don’t forget Jerry Reed

I always looked forward to Hee Haw! The greatest entertainers and they were all getting loose and having a good time in the relaxed atmosphere that show provided.

I’m a HUGE Haggard fan. Started at about age 21. Our families favorite vacation was a house boat trip on Shasta. We usually left out of Holiday Harbor but one year they were booked so we left out of Silverthorne. Which Merle owned. I’m thinking it was 2001 maybe. Anyway we’re still in the break water, the wife’s closing up to the houseboat in the bass blaster. Throws me a bow line so she can get aboard and so I can tie the bass boat off. At that moment we see Merle and George Jones climbing in some old beat up Boston Whaler skiff with a trolling motor on the front. I’m thinking are you kidding me? LOL, oh well. Centennial is my favorite series of all time and old Merle did a hell of a job.

One of my regrets is I didn’t get a video of my daughter standing on the foot stool in the living looking in the mirror belting out Dusty Springfield songs. Whenever she caught someone looking she cut the show short. This went on for years and was done for her won entertainment.

The kids’ musical tastes are as eclectic as mine. I never know what’s going to be requested next when we are on a road trip.

  8. JDHasty, you kept me up a little later than usual watching those videos before I go to bed. Thanks, loved seeing Merle Haggard and then Glen Campbell performing the William Tell Overture. HI HO SILVER! I’m still a sucker for watching all the old B&W episodes and later color ones of The Lone Ranger, FETV shows them daily at 4 AM Pac. time and on Saturday afternoons at noon. Merle Haggard and Glen Campbell rule. I also liked Glen’s imitation Of Hank Snow’s I’m Moving On. HI HO, IT’S OFF TO BED I GO!

  9. We saw Wayne Newton in Vegas about 20 years ago. We were seated right by the stage. I thought-“oh no” much to my dismay but later delight-was flirted with by Wayne for the whole show. I got a kiss in the cheek, he made me stand up and hold his hand as he sang part of a song and he winked at me and gave Mr Illustr8r a nod and a thumbs up at the end of the show. It was…a hoot! I mean, who can resist a man in a tux being revealed via a rip away space suit?!?

We were there with snooty snoot family who laughed at us for wanting to see Wayne. They had tickets to Celine Dion. Oooooo! And after all that, they left early. lol

Mr. Newton’s show won the night.

  10. Illustr8r, great story! When mrs6pak and I got married in Las Vegas our group thought we needed to see a show, this was 40 years ago and for some reason everyone thought that Wayne Newton was kind of hokey. Back in those days you could tip the guy seating you $100.00 dollars and be in the front row. Anyway I tipped the guy a $100.00 dollars and a party of 12 of us were literally in the front row. It was an awesome show, everyone loved it! Afterwords my liberal brother was asking everyone except me, what did Kevin say to that guy that got us such good seats? What a maroon!

  11. Beautiful voices and playing.
My grandfather was a huge Glen Campbell fan.

Before anyone could be a star regardless of talent or lack of talent.
Now the voices and music are computer fixed on the spot and/or generated.
