Anatomist have known it was there for centuries, this membrane that stretches around the intestines and connects the large and small intestine.  Called the mesentery  it has now been upgraded to a full blown organ.   They have yet to figure out what it does  other than keeping our guts in place.

  1. the mesentery connects the large and small intestines, but nobody knows what it does.

Like Obama between the House and Senate….nobody knows what he does……until it’s too late.

What flows out of Congress is much the same as what flows from the intestines.

  2. By recognizing the anatomy and the structure of the mesentery, scientists can now focus on learning more about how the organ functions, Coffey said. In addition, they can also learn about diseases associated with the mesentery, he added.

“If you understand the function, you can identify abnormal function, and then you have disease,” Coffey said.

The continuous nature of the mesentery, for example, may serve as a means for disease to spread from one part of the abdomen to another, according to the review.

In addition to studying disease, researchers may also look to the mesentery for new approaches to surgery, the authors said in the review.

Thus, the reclassification opens the tap of the money hose. Ka-ching!

  3. Pretty much keeps your guts in one place. DS had an injury as a child, and either the injury itself or the surgery caused adhesions that later on started to bind up his guts.
Just a word of caution. If your teenager says he’s feeling sick and his stomach is upset, he’s not necessarily suffering schoolitis to get out for a day. Made that mistake, but then, the docs made another, thinking he had appendicitis. Oh well, he didn’t need that appendix anyway, right?

All aboard the money train now.

  4. Most scientists today can be Godless and dense. The mesentery had to be designed for a highly benifical purpose. Not just another body part destine to be diseased.
