We May See A Woman MLB Umpire This Year

Newser-

Jen Pawol is on the verge of becoming Major League Baseball’s first female umpire. The 47-year-old from New Jersey has bee selected to work a full-time big league spring training schedule this year, reports CBS Sports. That puts her on track to become the first woman to umpire a regular-season big league baseball game, the AP reports. Pawol’s assignment was to be announced later Monday. The move comes 27 years after the gender barrier for game officials was broken in the NBA, nine years after it ended in the NFL, and two years after soccer’s World Cup employed a female referee.

Ted Barrett, a former big league umpire, first encountered Pawol at an umpire camp in Binghamton, New York, in 2015 and encouraged her to pursue the career. Barrett doesn’t think Pawol will be made to feel uncomfortable by players or managers.

Metrics can measure all umpires’ performance. We know Angel Hernandez is the worst. I hope she does well. But ANYONE can be better than Hernandez. He is complete dog shit.

  2. Witnessing first hand how female cops perform their duties and exhibit tendencies detrimental to efficiency and good order, I can see how this move can be problematic.

Placed into positions of authority, women will often times over-compensate. Whether its their lack of physical stature, inexperience, low confidence, or even a misplaced necessity to display hubris, the “stick” is brought out when unwarranted and when a more civil measured approach would suffice.

The ATP (professional men’s tennis) has gone almost exclusively with female chair umpires of late, and now all professional men’s sports have female officials.

She will probably do a good job but the dynamic of men arguing with women in authority (and they always look bad in the process) will always be with us.

  3. Dialog between MLB player Wayne McDrivel and lady Umpire Karen Fleeze:

First pitch: McDrivel swings and misses.
    Fleeze: Strike One.
Second pitch: McDrivel swings and misses.
    Fleeze: Strike Two.
    Third pitch is outside
    Fleeze: Outside.
McDrivel: Hold on, How many balls do I have?
Fleeze: You have only one ball. You need three more to walk.
    Fourth pitch is low.
    Fleeze: Low.
McDrivel: Wait…you forgot again…how many balls do I have?
Fleeze: You have two balls. You need two more to walk according to the rule book.
McDrivel: Bull, I’ve been walking with two balls since I was one year old.
Fleeze: Uh…OK if you say so…go ahead and take a walk to first base.

  4. There’s a bunch of women here that I would follow into battle, at least block their retreat, before some, SOME, of the men here. AA, Conservative Cow Girl, 99th, Claudia, MJA.I’m forgetting a bunch. Call me ladies. LOL. Have Weapons, Will Travel. And thank God for you ladies.

  5. In the spirit of DEI, I don’t understand why MLB doesn’t hire blind umpires. Couldn’t be any worse than Angel Hernandez. I imagine the hardest part would be getting the dog to bark once for a strike, and twice for a ball.

  6. Every job should be filled with the MOST QUALIFIED, regardless of their skin color or genitals. A vast majority agree with this, but when “most qualified” doesn’t agree with THE AGENDA, the racist rants start up.

Speaking of….have you seen the new National Guard recruiting ad?
Two men and a woman on a run down a dirt road.
    Guess who’s 20 yards ahead?
    smh

    =========================

Haven’t seen the ad, and I know you’re right about what you are saying, but consider a real life version of this with most any woman athletic enough to run at all.

I guess my question would be directed to the hetero men and lesbians, but would you rather run in front of a woman and never lay eyes on her, or would you rather watch her run from behind the whole time?

Dudes already know to use the excuse of covering her 6 from any attacks. You know, it’s the gentlemanly thing to do to maintain eyesight when covering her rear.
