Who Liked Led Zeppelin Back in the Day?

Did you like Led Zeppelin back in the day? Well, that day is back, sorta, in the form of a band called Greta Van Fleet.

3 brothers (two of them twins) and a friend make up the 4 piece band. Hailing from Michigan, they are getting a lot of worldwide attention as of late.

Here they are live-

Wanna see their growth?

Here they are in 2014, and they are borderline horrendous.

Many are calling them Zeppelin rip-offs, but I hear a lot of White Stripes in what they do, as well.

How did they get their name? It’s pretty nice, actually-

  1. I liked them, they weren’t my favorite but I had plenty of good times with their music playing. Saw them once in concert with festival seating and ended up right at the stage. That was a hell of a night.

  2. They’re tight but derivative. If you develop the ability, you can find your own sound. Kyuss was kind of like that with Black Sabbath but then really came into their own with Welcome To Sky Valley (which is one of the greatest heavy metal albums most rock’n’roll lovers have never heard of). That’s what so many do anyway. Everybody’s inspired by someone but you don’t make a career out of doing covers or songs so close that they’d qualify as covers.

Being raised on Classic Rock stations, you’d think Led Zeppelin only did Black Dog, Stairway to Heaven, and the mix of Heartbreaker going into Living Loving Maid. They were before my time but the crop circle 4 disc box set came out when I was in high school and I wore that thing out.

I kept “Babe I’m Gonna Leave You” as my morning wake up alarm until the missus asked if I was trying to tell her something.

  3. I hear more of a Geddy Lee-esque/Rush vocals.
It’s a wonder they continued to pursue their dreams. I would’ve been scarred for life after the “response” from the dead wood audience in the first video. I seen more emotion in Thorazine ward (not that I hang out there).

  4. Oh no, not again!
LZ was one group that I didn’t care too much for. Jimmie Page was talented but Robert Plant’s voice just grated on me.
Plant’s voice has the same effect on me as rap.

  5. Loved Zepplin. This kid carries like Plant but currently lacks the stage presence. The push around these kids is a little weird? I don’t listen to Zepplin at home, iPod, etc. and will probably only leave ‘Fool in the Rain’ on the radio if I heard it.

  6. I guess the reason they’re resonating is because of the dismal state of pop music today. There is nothing out there. This week’s top 5 has one song about suicide, one song that sounds like it was designed to be included in the DJ playlist for wedding receptions. The rest is all auto tune garbage, one song being undistinguishable from the other. American Idol and the stars born there have destroyed the music industry.

  7. Led Zeppelin was comprised of session musicians who were so far above these hacks that it isn’t even a logical comparison to make. I’ve never heard of them before, but have now sampled what they have to offer and it is pretty dismal. These counterfeits are to that style of blues/rock what a naugahyde imitation is to a genuine leather motorcycle jacket

  8. When you get time, listen to Led Zeppelin’s “Since I’ve been loving you” under the headphones. John Bonham was a great drummer, but didn’t do well lubricating his bass drum pedal. Squeak squeak squeak.

  9. My username isn’t “debzeppelin” for nuthin’. Loved them then and still and always will. Found Greta Van Fleet a few months ago. Meh. It’s like buying a off-brand when you can’t get the real thing.
