Hurricane watches have been issued by the National Hurricane Center (NHC) for several Gulf Coast states this weekend, as Tropical Storm Ida is expected to strengthen as it makes its way to the U.S.

In an advisory at 11:00 p.m. ET on Thursday, the NHC announced that hurricane watches had been issued for parts of several states, including New Orleans in Louisiana and the border between Mississippi and Alabama. More

  1. Prediction: The media will be full of stories about how these days, local emergency response is preferred, with FEMA advising from afar and generally taking a hands-off approach, especially after the way Trump politicized natural disasters.

  2. The last I heard, Ida is set to make landfall on the 29th – same day as Katrina – just west of New Orleans, putting N.O. on the worst side of the rotation. Stay tuned.

  5. My wife says the local grocery stores here in SE Texas are being bought out, today. Looks like we will be spared the worst of this one, but we’ve paid our dues over the last few years. I hope it fizzles out and isn’t as bad as it’s looking. Hurricanes suck!
