With Vice President Pence breaking tie, Senate passes anti-PP’hood bill

USA Today:

WASHINGTON — Vice President Pence cast a tie-breaking Senate vote Thursday to pass legislation that will allow states to withhold federal funds from Planned Parenthood and other health care providers that perform abortions.

The measure, which now goes to President Trump for his signature, dismisses an Obama-era rule banning states from denying federal funds to such organizations.

Pence’s vote was needed to break a 50-50 tie.

Republicans have said the Obama rule should be overturned to allow states the right to steer funds away from abortion providers, if they choose.

Sen. Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, said the measure reverses a rule that “attempted to empower federal bureaucrats in Washington and silence our states.”

Democrats condemned the measure throughout the day, with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, of New York, calling it “another example of the Republican war on women.”

“It would let states treat women as second class citizens who don’t deserve the same access to health care as men,” he said.

The House in February had voted 230-188 largely along party lines to reject the rule under the Congressional Review Act, which allows Congress to overturn recently enacted regulations.

The rule prohibits states from withholding family-planning funding from providers for reasons other than their ability to offer family-planning services. It took effect Jan. 18, two days before President Obama left office.

Since 2011, 13 states have restricted access to such grants, disrupting or reducing services in several instances.  more here

  1. Chuck Schumer:

…another example of the Republican war on women.

Wrong, Schmuckles, it is a war on killers of unborn babies.

It would let states treat women as second class citizens who don’t deserve the same access to health care as men.

Wrong again. Men deserve exactly the same access to abortions as women do.

  2. The Kermit Gosnell movie should be coming out soon. Phelim McAleer and Ann, the producers, did an interview with Mark Steyn last week.
Even though I’m a smalltime backer of the movie, I may not watch it. It sounds too gory. God Bless the victims.

  3. I shoulda read more. Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska broke from the Republicans and voted with Schmucky Schumer, and the war on the unborn. Make a note of it.

  4. Women have the same right to keep their legs together as men have not to unzip their pants. What type of war on women is that, especially considering sex selection abortion favors boy babies.

  5. As soon as the 3,2,1 lib heads explode will be some Congresswoman or Senator saying that women will now be in back alleys with an unnamed Dr with a coat-hanger. But no, abortions haven’t been restricted by the Repubs one bit; it’s just that now my tax dollars aren’t funding the killing against my will.

  6. No, fuck face Schumer, women were not denied the right to execute their babies. Only change is that you Godless pieces of shit can no longer charge tax payers. Put your money where your mouth is, ass hole. Give all of your own money you want to PP. Gahead, what’s stopping you? The less money PP gets the more worthless, irresponsible, unmotivated, and hopelessly stupid democrats will use free condoms.

  7. Not surprised that Collins and Murkowski switched sides. They’re Dem lite.

Proud that one of my Senators, Johnny Isakson, went to DC in a wheelchair (recovering from back surgery) to cast his vote for this bill.
