WNBA Star Whines About Having To Play Ball To Get Paid During Pandemic

The Sporting News

Reigning WNBA MVP Elena Delle Donne feels trapped between two choices: “I can either risk my life . . . or forfeit my paycheck.”

In an open letter for The Players’ Tribune, the Mystics star revealed she felt “hurt” after a panel of physicians denied her request to opt out of the 2020 WNBA season for medical reasons. Delle Donne suffers from Lyme disease and says she must take 64 pills each day in order keep herself healthy enough to continue playing the game she loves [to get paid to play- Dr. Tar]. More

In Donne’s defense, there was earlier speculation about how Chinese lung flu could put Lyme disease sufferers at greater risk. But as more is discovered about the Wuhan virus, it seems the biggest concern is that more people will be outdoors this summer social distancing (thus more exposure to Lyme carrying ticks) and that the two maladies have similar syptoms.

  1. Most Americans face the same choices, they must work to provide for their family, pay their mortgages and their not stop bills.

    The main difference is their pay check is minuscule compared to the salaries of the WNBA. In addition, most Americans work far more than just a basketball season.

    Stop your bitching and make the decisions every worker makes. Just do it.

  2. …just be patient, gal, a dude in a dress who wasn’t good enough to play with the BOYS will be along to steal your job soon, then you never have to worry about mythical BBall COVID exposure ever again…

  3. Pro Sports has become a thrombosis on the sphincter of America. What a pathetic, ignorant, gaggle of fecal foul ups. Dear Pro Athletes, go fornicate yourselves with splintery broom handles. You make be wretch.

  4. I wish I could make $215K (top salary, $57K low, as far as I could find on the ‘net) a year for doing something that most people deem unwatchable. It may have gotten better recently, but I only watched part of one game about 15 years ago and it was awful. On top of that, I haven’t ever whined that I was not getting paid when I wasn’t working.

    But this isn’t about me, it is about all entitled sports brats who whine about anything and everything. I will not be shedding a tear for or about your situation. You chose to do what you do.

  5. I am always struck by the fact that [it seems] the most privileged in remuneration for services rendered are the most ignorant/tone-deaf as to basic economic fundamentals, “We pay you to provide a service, a voluntary agreement between 2 parties, when you fail to provide that service then our obligation to pay you is negated”.

    I heard that the Mystics will pay her regardless of her decision.

    I feel sorry for for this young woman. Having Lyme’s Disease sucks and her mortality chances if COVID infected skyrocket. No amount of money is worth risking your life in this manner.

  6. Not that I care but;

    They do not make enough money to cover the cost of the hydro, taxes and building maintenance where they play, ever mind the “profit”
