Aug. 30 (UPI) — A Pennsylvania mother of five died in a car accident after her boyfriend cut her brake lines to make a pipe for crack cocaine, police said.
Tammy Fox, 38, of Scranton, Pa., was driving a black Hyundai Sonata on Aug. 22 when she accelerated but couldn’t stop, causing her to hit several parked cars before slamming into a tree. She died on the way to the hospital.
Pennsylvania State Police said John William Jenkins Jr., 39, admitted to cutting the brake lines the night before the crash “in an attempt to obtain a metal pipe that could be used to smoke crack cocaine.”
According to police, Jenkins said he didn’t know he cut a brake line and reached under the car for something he could make a pipe out of. more here

“Key witness in prison sex case dies in car wreck
A key witness against several former Lackawanna County prison guards accused of sexually abusing inmates was killed in a one-car crash Wednesday in Scranton.
Tammy Fox, 38, Scranton, was driving a 2004 Hyundai Sonata on Pine Street around 10 a.m. when the car jumped a curb near North Washington Avenue and struck several parked cars and a tree, city police said.
Lackawanna County Coroner Tim Rowland said Fox was pronounced dead at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton. An autopsy Thursday determined she died from multiple traumatic injuries.
Fox is one of the victims who came forward in 2016 to allege she was repeatedly sexually abused while incarcerated at the county prison.
Her testimony before a statewide investigative grand jury led to charges against three of the seven former guards arrested in February: Mark A. Johnson,James J. Walsh and John Shnipes Jr.
It was not clear Thursday how her death will impact the cases. Each of the men is charged with abusing at least one other woman.
Contacted Thursday about the impact Fox’s death will have in the criminal case, state attorney general spokesman Joe Grace said, “Our case continued to move forward.”
Fox was also one of two plaintiffs in a federal civil lawsuit filed against the county, prison and multiple guards.
The Times-Tribune does not typically name victims of sexual abuse, but Fox’s involvement in the criminal and civil lawsuits, coupled with her death, made naming her inevitable.
“It’s very, very sad,” Scranton attorney Matthew Comerford, who represented Fox in the case, said about her death. “There is always a financial motive in a case, but she truly wanted to come forward so this didn’t happen to anyone else. She was a good person and had a good heart.”
Comerford said he is evaluating the impact Fox’s death has on the lawsuit. He’s going to discuss with her family substituting one of her survivors to continue the case. The claims by the other plaintiff will remain, regardless of their decision, he said.

Really? Coincidental I am sure.
Does brake fluid make a good mix with crack?
From the story, it sounds like the headline should be: “Boyfriend cuts break line in exchange for crack cocaine money.”
How depraved can people be? I just read a story at Knuckledraggin the other day about people who are injuring their pets in order to get ahold of veterinary pain meds.
Depraved.
Honey Sayonara in Hyundai Sonata…
Somebody should kill him back.
Remember the old commercials, “why do you think they call it dope?”
Johnny: glad you filled in the blanks.
That whole ” I needed a crack-pipe, so I cut the brake line” thing makes NO sense whatsoever.
Is this the Worlds’ Pickiest Crack Fiend ‘?
Why wouldn’t he get a used soda or beer can to make a pipe like the rest of them ?
Oh, I get it.. Maybe he’s just not ‘ghetto ‘ enough to smoke crack that way. 🙂
If the cops fall for THAT alibi, it’s cause they wanted to.
Smoka gotta smoke.
Don’t be judgin Yo.
Having worked on cars and trucks for most of my life as a job and as a hobby I can tell ya, the crack pipe story is a crock. Most brake lines on today’s cars are 3/16″ steel tubing. The flexible lines have a larger O D but the same size I D as the steel lines. I have no first hand knowledge of crack pipes but judging from the pictures I’ve seen….no way. Sounds like murder to me.
I Agree with Johnny, Dan, and JDubb.
Murdering a witness who is scheduled to talk is right out of a gangster movie of old film noirs. Still happens in many ways. Car crashes by hijacking electronic systems is a common way to murder hi-tech these days. It is safer to drive old models without on-board electronic controls.
A mother of five has a boyfriend who… Wait, stop there.
You got five kids and you got time for a boyfriend? Even a good one? Nevermind one who chops up your car for parts to smoke crack with?!
What, you couldn’t have used a piece of fuel line?
