HUNTINGTON, N.Y. (News 12 Long Island) – It’s a famous combination for “Trekkies” everywhere; NCC-1701 are the letters and numbers on the “Star Trek” USS Enterprise.
But for a New York woman, that combination was her state-issued license plate on her car.
She never imagined how it would get her into trouble.
It’s been four years of tears for Beda Koorey.
The Huntington grandmother who was losing her eyesight, gave up driving, sold her car and surrendered her license plates in 2020.
“I want to cry because it’s a simple matter that they could have fixed,” Koorey said.
But Koorey’s New York plates shared the same number as the “Star Trek” spaceship USS Enterprise: NCC 1701.
Trekkies all over the globe have been buying matching novelty plates, putting them on their vehicles and racking up hundreds of tickets delivered to Koorey’s mailbox. more
This is illogical.
In Maryland you can place an old vintage license plate on your vintage car as long as the expiration date matches the year your car was manufactured (yeah, not logical). You do have to register that tag as an alternate to the tag registered to the car (you have to keep it in the car). So what happens anytime you go through an automated speed trap camera, red light camera or toll booth? Could the original tag owner from 25+ years ago get fined?
count on the dmv ******* to fkitup
Government is the greatest evil ever created by man.
because fkng ****** assholes can’t read/determine the validity of a registration
Dammit Jim, I’m a DMV worker, not a brain surgeon!
Unfortunately, the efforts of Vivek and Elon to cut waste, inefficiency, and corruption from government will only effect the feds, and not that of the Soviet State of New York.
Government is like the Borg.
