(NEWSER) – California Gov. Gavin Newsom overruled a parole board’s decision to free Charles Manson follower Leslie Van Houten on Monday, the third time a governor has stopped the release of the youngest member of Manson’s murderous cult. Van Houten, 69, is still a threat, Newsom said, though she has spent nearly a half-century behind bars and received reports of good behavior and testimonials about her rehabilitation.
“While I commend Ms. Van Houten for her efforts at rehabilitation and acknowledge her youth at the time of the crimes, I am concerned about her role in these killings and her potential for future violence,” he wrote. “Ms. Van Houten was an eager participant in the killing of the LaBiancas and played a significant role.” It was the first time Newsom rejected parole for Van Houten. Former Gov. Jerry Brown denied her release twice.
Van Houten was 19 when she and other cult members stabbed to death wealthy Los Angeles grocer Leno LaBianca and his wife, Rosemary, in August 1969.
Quick and swift death is more humane than keeping someone locked up in a cage for 50 years.
Prisoners should be given the option of Cyanide.
He did it only as a card to play someday when he runs for President.
Like that was a real courageous no-brainer thing to do. 🙄
i feel less threatened by van houten than those illegal criminals to whom newsom has granted sanctuary
Wait, Jerry Brown wouldn’t let her out either? Maybe they know something about her the leftist media won’t mention.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom overruled a parole board’s decision to free Charles Manson follower ELIZABETH WARREN on Monday, the third time a governor has stopped the release of the youngest member of Manson’s murderous cult. Warren, 69, is still a threat, Newsom said, though she has spent nearly a half-century behind bars and received reports of good behavior and testimonials about her rehabilitation.
“While I commend Ms. Warren for her efforts at rehabilitation and acknowledge her youth at the time of the crimes, I am concerned about her role in these killings and her potential for future violence,” he wrote. “Ms. Warren was an eager participant in the killing of the LaBiancas and played a significant role.” It was the first time Newsom rejected parole for Warren. Former Gov. Jerry Brown denied her release twice.
She’s missed several chances at early release by not being black.
It’s the white woman’s burden.
She should identify as an undocumented Mexican. She would be out in a second.
Maybe a large donation made up his mind.
Is she Milhouse’s granny?
Bet he has no problems letting an illegal MS-13 killer go free.
Let her out. Once she sees the streets full of typhoid, feces and beaners, she’ll be begging to get back in prison.
She was old enough to understand that bad choices she desired to make. Now she has everybody else making her choices for her.
Although Newsome is a slimeball who did this purely for future political reasons, I must also say that I don’t feel sorry for her one damn bit.
She made her decision. Now she suffers the consequence.
MJA – she forgot to promise him a large donation is more like it.
When she’s finally released and her items returned before exiting the gates will that include her butcher knife?
Cheap political ploy to “prove” he is tough on crime
