US technology company Yahoo announced Tuesday it had completely pulled out of China in response to a widening crackdown on the tech industry.
Under Chinese law, companies operating there are required to censor content and keywords deemed politically sensitive or inappropriate, including references to the 1989 Tiananmen Square massacre.
“In recognition of the increasingly challenging business and legal environment in China, Yahoo’s suite of services will no longer be accessible from mainland China as of November 1,” the company said in a statement.
It said it “remains committed to the rights of our users and a free and open internet.”
Foreign tech companies operating in China must also hand over data to authorities upon request.
In 2007, Yahoo was heavily criticized by lawmakers in the US after it supplied data on two Chinese dissidents to Beijing. Both were later imprisoned.
Yahoo is the latest US company to curb operations in China. Last month, Microsoft said it would close its career-oriented networking platform LinkedIn, citing a “challenging operating environment and greater compliance requirements.”
Google’s services have not been available in China for several years. Social network Facebook, meanwhile, is blocked in the country.
That is rich, because, Big Tech spikes stories that harm who they are – LEFTISTS. Yahoo is one of the worst offenders.
Self-awareness is not their strong suit.
The corporatocracy has no interest in being controlled, they want to be the controllers.
As I’ve said before; these assholes can dish it out but they can’t take it.
Much like a schoolyard bully.
“Hey, you can’t do that! That’s our job!”

So, what you people want to control the news? You already have sites & places that support your views. If you for an instant think that those far-extremist views are the main stream views you will be mistaken. What ever happens in communist counties (controled news) will never happen here. No matter how much you wish or complain about it.
Hat, I gotta correct you on this piece of disinformation: Abroad, Yahoo gets told what to say while here, they along with their toadies write what their accolytes are told to say.
Not much, but better than nothing.
When Yahoo was an independent company its new service was pretty impartial, even slightly right-leaning. The thousands of comments made news worth reading there.
After Verizon bought Yahoo the news went hard left. And after a while they realized the constant attacks (on the article and writers) in the comments couldn’t continue – so they ended comments.
^^^^^^^^^^Yeah, Yahoo was getting a new one ripped in the comments. It was glorious.
