The University of South Carolina has confirmed the death of a 21-year-old student who was reported missing after friends say she mistakenly entered a car she believed to be an Uber.

From hopping into strange cars, to crossing the street without looking, to the pre-occupation with everything “smart”, to the filing of taxes on-line, to stolen identities. They have pictures of her before she went “poof”, now she’s not here. You can only trust yourself.

  4. A similar story was told on ID channel last evening. Young girl in Columbus accepts a ride from helpful friendly stranger. Ends up beaten, raped, her head smashed in with a tomb stone in an old CW cemetery.

    Too many people also willing hop into the fed-gov car when the drivers say, We’re here to help. It also doesn’t end well.

  7. I rode in an Uber for the first time a few weeks ago. I was traveling with a coworker who had recently just started using the app. He was really psyched about it and wanted to show me.
    It’s kinda creepy wondering when and where your assigned driver will suddenly show up, and guessing if that car that just pulled over 100 feet away is your ride. At 2AM a black Impala may look just like a black Camry.

    I would also add one more. – First thing…ASK the driver’s name, don’t say it as you open the car door.

    Rideshare safety

    1. Plan ahead, think about your destination and review safety features in your rideshare app so you are prepared to use them if needed.

    2. Request ride inside and wait until your driver arrives. Don’t spend unnecessary time outside.

    3. Before you get into a car, check the license plate number, driver photo and driver’s name provided through the rideshare app.

    4. Make sure those details match what’s provided and don’t get in the vehicle if they don’t match.

    5. Never get in a car with a driver who claims to be with a rideshare service and offers a ride.

    6. Ride in the backseat if you’re alone. This ensures you can exit the vehicle on either side.

    7. Share trip details with a friend or family member. This can be done through your rideshare service app.

    8. Don’t share your phone number or other contact info with a driver.

    9. Trust your gut and use your best judgement. If you feel unsafe, call 911 right away.

  14. It’s so sad to read stories like this where a young life is snuffed out because she failed to take even the most elementary precautions that one has to take living in the urban jungle. What I wonder about is just how many murdering rat bastards cruise bars in nice cars looking for women and pretending to be Uber drivers. Take an actual taxi ladies, it’s safer and you can arrive alive.
