Expect more this year.
AEI: In the May 2000 issue of Reason Magazine, award-winning science correspondent Ronald Bailey wrote an excellent article titled “Earth Day, Then and Now” to provide some historical perspective on the 30th anniversary of Earth Day. In that article, Bailey noted that around the time of the first Earth Day, and in the years following, there was a “torrent of apocalyptic predictions” and many of those predictions were featured in his Reason article. Well, it’s now the 46th anniversary of Earth Day, and a good time to ask the question again that Bailey asked 16 years ago: How accurate were the predictions made around the time of the first Earth Day in 1970? The answer: “The prophets of doom were not simply wrong, but spectacularly wrong,” according to Bailey.
Apocalyptic predictions are the name of the (money) game. How much attention and government funding will result from a prediction of a temperature rise of (maybe) 1/2 degree C over the next 20 years?
You will be prosecuted in Illinois for the heresy you just posted! 17 Demorats AG’s have banded together to prosecute climate change heretics.
The Earth’s environment is important, and is under assault by polluters every day. Unfortunately the GW/CC effort has reduced the amount of attention and funding so importantly needed to reduce environmental destruction, all in the name of increased governmental control. It is sad but true that so many environmentalists are actually making the environment worse through their efforts.
Any real scientist who says “The science is settled.”, is not a real scientist.
The science is NEVER settled. It’s not a religion folks.
@OpenTheDoor, You beat me to it. I’ve been saying the same thing for sometime now. It’s even less settled when it can’t be replicated. IMHO Al Gore, whose size & carbon foot print is beyond measurement, belongs in jail for fraud!
And Ira Einhorn one of the hippie Co founders of earth day murdered and composted his girlfriend in Phillie, and he fled to France before he was caught and extradited back to the US. And he’s a big hero (in my book he’s a zero) to the left. He should’ve been pushing up daisies (industrial shredders would make nice compost out of him) a long time ago right after he was caught.
Left Coast Dan,
Well said.
There is way more damage being done to the oceans by fertilizer and industrial waste than any raise in Temperature could cause.
The death of Plankton could well be the death of us all.
They made one prediction that has been borne out.
Celebrating Lenin’s birthday in this fashion will nudge the US a bit closer to communism every year.
I remember the 70’s, the counter culturists knew they were getting over be creating celebrations for Hitler and Lenin’s birthdays that would endure.
I loathe and despise Environmentalists with every fibre of my being.
