2016 ACA Open Enrollment begins with higher prices, smaller networks and more canceled plans

I miss the old days when we could actually call our clients and tell them that they have a plethora of lower priced options to choose from a variety of carriers in a vibrant and competitive market. – C Steven Tucker.

HealthInsuranceMentors.com: As we enter the third year of ‘full’ PPACA (Obamacare) implementation, policy holders in Illinois and around the country are once again facing higher prices, smaller PPO networks and even more canceled plans. On October 20, 2015, 173,000 Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois policy holders received cancellation letters like this one. The letter, among other things notifies these policy holders that not only has their health insurance policy been canceled (AGAIN) but that they have also been auto enrolled in a new plan with a newly revamped HMO network.

Instead of the “Broad” PPO that these members chose in 2014 which guaranteed them access to the top teaching hospitals in Chicago like Northwestern Memorial hospital, University of Chicago hospital and the Ann & Robert Lorie Children’s Memorial hospital, they are now auto enrolled into a plan that no longer includes that PPO network but now includes the newly revamped “Precision HMO” network which does not include access to the aforementioned teaching hospitals. Worse yet, none of the new PPO networks offered to individuals and families who seek to purchase health insurance with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois in 2016 include access to these hospitals. I’ll present guidance on how to retain access to these hospitals in the following paragraphs.

  1. Obama don’t need electing again and now the truth (that people like C Steven has been saying for 8 years) is just now hitting the lo-fo’s. BCBS just dropped the only hospital in my county, now if BCBS peeps go there, they are out of network and pay thru what ever orifice BCBS chooses! BTW, state employees are insured with BCBS. What a conundrum!

  2. This is just more evidence that I made the right choice in refusing to sign up for un-affordable / unavailable healthcare. Well, at least thus far since no family member has yet been involved in a serious body mangling accident or come down with a serious disease.

  3. A co-worker friend of mine has no insurance, refuses to get any until Obamacare is killed. He told his wife that if anything happens to him, to put him in his car and shove it over a cliff. He plans to get his car insurance to take care of him!

  4. If for no other reason, he should have been impeached for this years ago, but now the assw_pe Repubs want to keep Ocare. Time for term limits across the board…only way to get rid of Pelosi, Reid, Frankenfeinstein, Boxer, etc.
