School says their policy is to support free speech, but not insensitivity

That’s quite a policy. Not that it matters when the statement itself is absurd, but, who is the arbiter of what is and isn’t insensitive?

 A teacher tweeted her disappointment with the low voter turnout in the town of Revere’s mayoral race. Caley Godino said it was probably because 90 percent of the people in the town were illegal.

A High School cheerleader in Revere, Mass., is being benched for the rest of the season as punishment for her post on Twitter about illegal immigrants.

Students complained about Godino’s post on Twitter, so the Revere Superintendent Dianne Kelly stepped in and told Fox 25 that the school district “believes in freedom of speech, but cannot support what she calls insensitive language.”

“If you’re going to stand up and say something that other people will find offensive, then you need to be prepare to deal with the ramifications of that,” the superintendent declared.

As a result of the backlash, the school system has banned Godino from cheering for the rest of the season.

I looked up Revere’s demographic. They are wildly over-represented with Hispanics. Any area with this many Hispanics will most likely have a high rate of illegals.

wiki- As of the 2010 United States Census, there were 51,755 people residing in the city. The racial makeup of the city was 62.4% White, 4.9% Black, 5.6% Asian.

Hispanic or Latino persons were 24.4% of the population.

  4. So-called “insensitivity” is what the First Amendment is all about. If you are only free to say the things that other people and/or the Government won’t object to, then you don’t HAVE freedom of speech!

    Our educational system has been turned over to morons!

  5. I hope the girl’s parents sue the school district. Maybe a nice big settlement will make these left-wing apparatchiks think twice before they pull this kind of stunt again.

  7. The issue at hand is basically those that do this are insulated from lawsuits and feel comfortable doing all kinds of shit like aforementioned. Had they have the responsibility to the constitution, more than likely they wouldn’t consider doing any of it.
    As it stands now, the district will be poorer from the a lost lawsuit and the dimwitted administrators will keep right on with the infringement of rights.

Frankly, with that many Hispanics in the town I’ll be they have a huge drug problem as well as more than their share of gangs and gang related activity (beatings, smuggling, slavery, drug importation, money laundering, murders etc etc) all controlled by their Mexican cartel masters. This kid was probably trying to be sarcastic/funny but I gues some of her heroin addicted teen friends took issue with any threat to their supply.

  22. The problem is not the phase ‘illegal alien”. The problem for the left is that they want to suppress any public acknowledgement of the invasion. There is no descriptive phrase for this problem that will be acceptable to the liberals. Viva la revolucion
