Miss World Canada, Anastasia Lin (an actual woman), is stuck at the airport in Hong Kong because China won’t let her enter in order to compete in the Miss World contest they are hosting in Sanya.
Miss Lin has been very active in calling out China’s human rights record and has “appeared in films depicting sensitive issues in China ranging from corruption to suppression of religion.”

I’ve only taken cruises, but they’d gather up our passports just prior to the excursion after we were in harbor.
They were talking about this last night on the BBC. Something about picking up a visa in Hong Kong before being allowed to travel further into China being pretty routine.

I’m not so sure I’d trust the Chi Coms, they’re just as likely to use citizenship as a justification to imprison an individual.
Certainly the Iran’s have a bad track record of imprisoning U.S. citizens and our government has a bad track record of every caring to get them back (but a for a traitor in Afghanistan, they’ll give up 5 terrorist).
