“White Trash” is an Epithet Against Minorities

There is a stupid fake story going around about a “leaked memo” created by the Rubio team. It’s been floating around for months now. Supposedly Rubio suggested that all camps start calling Trump supporters “white trash.”  What this strategy would accomplish is beyond me, but I’m going to take the opportunity to once again explain to people how the term “white trash” is actually a double-edged epithet.

It’s a term that denigrates minorities. So when I hear a progressive use the term I get a little chuckle.

Let me explain.

A normal insult would be to say “you’re trash.” Putting the qualifier “white” in front of trash changes the implication.

It’s saying, “we all know what trash is, right? You have the picture in your head? Good. Well, you’re WHITE trash.”

People don’t say “you’re a white liar.”

“You’re a white scumbag.”

“You’re a white adulterer.”

But “you’re trash,” suddenly becomes ” you’re white trash.”

“I never go downtown because of the trash that hangs out down there. But get this, Fred, last time I was down there I even saw “white trash.” Can you believe it?”

When progressives call you white trash they are actually insulting minorities.

  1. Your analysis is spot on.

Implicit in the epithet “white trash” is that blacks, browns, yellows, and whatever else may be, are ALREADY trash and whites are pure – except for the trashy ones.

  2. At least that’d give me a shoe in to claim some minority. Heteronormative average looking/acting white male with no complaints in life other than liberals is becoming no way to live life since just about every single opportunity on any level governed and regulated playing field puts my cracker ass on the bottom rung. I’ve had it up to my eyeballs with minorities and their shtruggles while the door of opportunity is shuttered to an entire group that has no minority status. #whitetrashmatters

  3. @ LocoBSaltine,
Dewey always seemed to be the comedy relief, albeit dark comedy, but comedy. I would start to feel sorry for the idiot and laugh at the same time almost every time he was on. I was upset at his demise thinking the rest of the last season would fall flatter because of it.

Just watched Episode 8, Final season tonight. Winner of funny line (paraphrased): You shot me in the back. retort: If you wanted to be shot in the front you should have run toward me.

For me, the best character in the series was Mags Bennett (Margo Martindale). Really good actress. I just don’t want to know her politics because that would probably ruin my enjoyment of her work. 🙂

Actually, I think the Bennett “season” is my favorite of all of the seasons.

I really think the Boyd character is extremely well developed and psychologically “logical” but not stereotyped. Walton Goggins is a good actor as is the woman who plays Ava.

All in all, I don’t think it’s easy to play characters that are so far removed from where most of the actors come. Where does a actor go to become immersed in their roles for such a series 🙂 ?

  4. P.Jane, are you aware that they originally planned to kill off Boyd during the first season finale?

I have all the seasons on Blu-ray.
I will likely watch the pilot again.
I love Raylan blowing that guy away in Miami to start it all off.
Being from Kentucky I happen to enjoy it taking place up there.

If you are on episode 9 I won’t spoil anything, since you have five episodes left.

I didn’t know Boyd was supposed to be killed off. Even though all the supporting cast is great, he makes the series….his character and his acting.

He has that ability to present as psycho/demonic/loving. His facial expressions are better than Jack Nicholson’s possibly because he seems to convey the emotion of his character without over expressing like Nicholson does when he plays Mr. evil character.

I’m thinking also that the high squared off hairline helps that also.

Thank you for not spoiling it. When DH saw this last season was a freebie on Amazon ROKU we jumped on it about a week ago.

Being from Kentucky, I have no doubt you do get a kick out of it. I had to see all the Capone type movies and Public Enemies (Dillinger) because of some family history. 🙂

Yes, weasel guy is bad dude, but his character is cracking me up this season. The tanning bed said an awful lot about his character – without words. 🙂

Mary Steenburgen (Katherine) was Doc’s wife in Back to the Future 3 or maybe 2 & 3.

I knew Nick Searcy was conservative but only saw Last Man Standing a few times so I didn’t recognize Dever.
