Love the song, but IMHO the popularity of song ruined him… maybe. Most everything post was formulaic.

Excellent pick Moe – one of my many favorites. Here’s a couple of links of some brief classic country clips that I enjoy with the first one being Merle Haggard imitating Marty Robbins while Marty’s sitting beside him and the second including the same impression plus Hank Snow, Buck Owens and Johnny Cash.
There are no balladeers left, no “western” in “country and western”. Now they’re all just most songs bout drink’in n devorce. Rap with a different beat and southern accent.

El Paso by Marty Robbins is good but I’ve always liked Big Iron more. Maybe it’s because Big Iron doesn’t get played on the radio as much as El Paso does.
I listened to Eddy Arnold’s Cattle Call 1963 LP from 1963 yesterday on Spotify, great music. I can remember my grandfather back in the early 60’s listening to Cattle Call when I was about 10, he liked it a lot and I still like listening to it 50 + years later. The older C&W music is far superior to most of the new so called country music now. I love Hank Snow’s music as well, Hello Love which Garrison Keillor used to open a Prairie Home Companion with is one of my favorites.

As an aside I hate Windows 10 since my computer automatically upgraded to it the other day. They need to get rid of the damn popups, I never had that problem before.
