I don’t know about the one in five claim for colleges, but that is a supportable number for the incidence of rape in the U.S. military. The most recent numbers are from 2014, and 5% of female military personnel reported sexual assaults, and in that same year Defense Secy Hagel was please to report that the percentage of assaults that were reported had risen from one in eight to one in four. Quadruple that 5% number and you get 20%.
So a related question is why would any woman consider joining the U.S. military when there’s a one in five chance of being raped?
