  1. As a former 1/4 miler and 1st leg of Mile Relay, That woman’s effort and commitment actually brought a tear to my eye.

You’re right Molon, about where you put your strongest runner, I was 2nd fastest on that relay team.

One year I watched the top 440 relay team in Dallas lose because they has so much confidence in their anchor. He was truly phenomenal for a 17 year old and his team mates knew it. They goofed it up so much on one race the guy could not make up the difference. Before the race, his team mates were strutting around talking trash because a current multi-record holder for that athletic field was their anchor. Laughing at how slow everybody else looks in all their races.”Yo, we gots Alvin! Y’all can’t beat us! We can even hand the baton to him in last place and he’ll still blow by all of you!!” And so they did hand it to him in last place – on purpose.

Alvin ran the 1/4 mile in around 46-47 seconds while the rest of us hovered around 50-51 seconds at best.

There were 22 teams ridiculing his team mates that day. They were rightfully embarrassed they didn’t do their part.

    A lesson on being team.

  2. @ Callmelennie

That blonde lead girl that was giving her all was building up lactic acid in the muscles. You could see her stiffen and struggle at the end. Been there.

They all had heart. The lead girl that faded at the end wanted it badly.

The winner was both conditioned better and well trained in getting the most out of the effort.

It’s obvious she has spent more time sprinting full power for 400 meters than the others.

That’s how it works. Along with some genetics to curve things one way or another.

  3. If Michelle Finn was a man, I could say that she popped her wad in the backstretch and paid for it at the finish line. There was no need for her to go all out to catch the frontrunner, who was very weak

But then again, sometimes you can only learn these things from harsh experience, poor thing. …. BTW, although I wasn’t a track guy in high school, I got into running one lap all out around a track later on so I know what hitting the anabolic threshhold is like
