Canada’s Atheist Minister – IOTW Report

Canada’s Atheist Minister

Ordained into the United Church of Canada in 1993, Gretta Vosper was never really into the whole higher power God with a capital G.

She “came out” as an atheist in 2013. On the way there she stripped her church, West Hills United, of big G right down to rewriting the hymns and replacing the Lord’s Prayer, losing nearly half of her small congregation.

The UCC has tolerated Vosper up until she criticized one of its Moderators for circulating a prayer for the victims of the Charlie Hebdo massacre.

See, Vosper purports that a belief in a “supernatural being” “had led to innumerable tragedies.”

The UCC has been dithering for over a year now whether to defrock Vosper, with no resolution in sight.

  1. the half of the congregation that didnt leave were the ones sleeping through her sermons. (If they are called sermons when there is no God. More like speeches)

  2. It’s the United Church of Canada…everyone knows it’s the “church” you go to if you don’t actually want to hear the Gospel, correct theology or want to change anything about yourself…oh…and you get to look forward to getting an upgraded choice of seats every Sunday as the parishioners vacate for the Churches that do continue to preach/teach historically orthodox Christianity.

  3. Where there are no standards,
there is no right and wrong,
there is no no yes and no,
there is no no truth and lie,
and there is no good and evil.

These people (and she is not alone, just openly vocal) just make up their own personal religion. Unfortunately, the United Church of Canda has been the perfect place for her to thrive and grow her personal religion and infect others with her views.

  4. She “believes in neither God nor Bible.” Is she unclear on the duties and basic premises of a church leader, insofar as Christianity is concerned?

I think she’s looking to time out and retire with whatever benefits she can claw out of the UCC. One more grifter.

  5. She’s a reprobate and will be accountable for every soul she leads astray.

    NIV-Psalms 14:1
The fool says in his heart,
    “There is no God.”
    They are corrupt, their deeds are vile;
there is no one who does good

  6. What?
This doesn’t make any sense. If she doesn’t believe in God, why is half the congregation still there? This is like going to a vegetarian barbecue, or a non-alcoholic bar…why bother?

  7. It’s pretty obvious that the bitch just stayed there for the paycheck and to see how many of the members she could corrupt. I don’t understand why the ones that left (presumably because they still believed in God) didn’t complain to the UCC hierarchy are engage in a little civil disobedience such as blocking her from entering the church and calling the media.

  8. @what the ever loving hell is going on: the reason that half the congregation is still there is because she is preaching “what their itching ears want to hear.”

As Paul said to Timothy: For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.

  9. Just another lefty whackjob.
Like a monkey with her hand
in the rice filled coconut trap,
she just can’t let go of the
payola even when she can’t use
God to keep the “church” scam
going any longer. As to the dweebs
    who are still following her…..meh.

  10. You should read the gibberish she wrote on the Paris killings:
“We must boldly stand with those who would clear the public sphere from the prejudices of religious belief even as we defend the rights of individuals to hold whatever beliefs allow them to sleep at night.”
    Yeah, she’s a loon!

  11. I’m am American living in Ontario, Canada, in the Greater Toronto Area. In the mornings, I like to catch the John Oakley show on AM 640. He’s funny and has an interesting show. Every now and again, he has this creature on as part of a panel. I didn’t know that she’s an atheist, but I could certainly tell by what I’ve heard her say on the radio, that she’s no Christian.

  12. went to a metropolitan community church in dallas about 40 years ago… the sunday school director was an athiest…she enjoyed the camaraderie and was amazing at scheduling and detailing…it worked for all us us, plus she had a beautiful voice…dale
