It Was 32 Years Ago This Week

In 1984 Ronald Reagan makes a remark that has dire international implications. He says “I’ve outlawed Russia forever and the bombing begins in 5 minutes.”

Ronald Reagan was declared unfit for command and was removed from the 1984 presidential ticket with 3 months to go by a coterie of principled, sober and serious conservatives, and the presidency was, in effect, handed to Walter Mondale, a much better candidate considering the circumstances.

Oh, wait. No.

Reagan was reelected president and he’s hailed as the greatest president conservatives ever had.

  1. sad to say that reagan was a once-in-many-lifetimes president

my parents used to run into reagan at the local hardware store in pacific palisades, and noted that he shopped and loaded his station wagon alone, cowboy boots, hat, and all

    great american, rip

  2. Humor unfortunately now is left up to un-funny comedians. Back in the day, people understood the humor (with a tad of reality)of even political people. What a difference a few decades makes.

Those of us who are old enough to understand Reagan, also understand Trump. Hopefully, the grandpas like Trump and Giuliani will redirect our nation back on proper, sane course.

  3. “What’s the difference between a communist and a scientist?” “I don’t know,” responded Gorbachev. Reagan smiled and said, “A scientist would have tried it out on rats first.”

  4. How do you tell a communist? Well, it’s someone who reads Marx and Lenin. And how do you tell an anti-Communist? It’s someone who understands Marx and Lenin.

  5. All of us came here because we knew the country couldn’t go on the way it was going. So it falls to all of us to take action. We have to ask ourselves if we do nothing, where does all of this end. Can anyone here say that if we can’t do it, someone down the road can do it, and if no one does it, what happens to the country? All of us know the economy would face an eventual collapse. I know it’s a hell of a challenge, but ask yourselves if not us, who, if not now, when?

  6. every thing they are saying about Trump today, they said about Ronaldus Magnus in 1980……..

    not making any promises…..

    just sayin…….

and we FOR SHER know what we get with the “other” option……

also, why is it that we’ve been told for decades, to hold our nose and vote for the party’s nominee, because at least it wasn’t a DEMOCRAT, but now, all of a sudden, we’re supposed to vote for the democrat, because, AT LEAST, it’s not TRUMP…..

we either beat the establishment – both sides, no difference – into the mud NOW, or we learn how to be serfs forever……welcome to the new feudal government, if we fail…….

and God’s probably not interested, by the way….we kicked Him out long ago, and He’s not going to come flying in to save the day….

we are on our own……IT’S UP TO YOU, NOW……SO…..WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO?????

  7. There’s an old principle: If everyone in the world seems like an asshole, maybe you’re the problem. After all, you’re the common factor in every single one of your experiences.

  8. “My accomplishments as Secretary of State? Well, I’m glad you asked. My proudest accomplishment in which I take the most pride, mostly because of the opposition it faced early on, you know. The remnants of prior situations and mindsets that were too narrowly focused in a manner whereby they may have overlooked the bigger picture and we didn’t do that. Very proud. I would say that’s a major accomplishment.”

  9. I remember this. It was a microphone test that unintentionally went out over the airwaves. The press had a field day with this. But in the end, even Russia (after they came off full alert) had a good laugh over.
