OL: Two days after Donald Trump was elected president of the United States, two Portlanders have submitted a petition for a 2018 ballot initiative to have Oregon secede from the United States.
On Thursday morning, Jennifer Rollins, a lawyer, and Christian Trejbal, a writer, filed the Oregon Secession Act.
“Oregonian values are no longer the values held by the rest of the United States,” Trejbal said over the phone Thursday.
Those values? “Life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness,” Trejbal said, “plus equality.”
“Obviously,” he said, the ballot proposal “came about partially in response to the election results on Tuesday.”

There are a lot of good people in OR. Typical of most states, especially the blue ones, are the urban areas with their concentrations of REgressives, running rough shod over the larger rural, more sparsely populated areas.
Or has one of the most sickeningly REgressive cities in the country in Portland. I’ve been there many times to do work at one of the large glass making factories there and I never linger. Which is too bad as it’s a beautiful locale. It’s nose rings and weird-os aplenty. I get a cab to where I’m going, do what I need and right back to the airport.
Throw in Eugene and all of the colleges around Corvallis and you have a state that’s over 90% in area, red, run by a few square miles of REgressives.

In this day and age it should be pretty doable to split the country up. Not state by state since, as it was pointed out above, all states are filled with patriotic, freedom and liberty loving Americans. It’s just many of the densely populated areas that want all powerful, unlimited government. So all the blue counties can become their own country with their own government and laws. We’d grant them free movement and free communication through our country, but they would no longer be able to live their parasitical existence sucking productive, patriotic Americans dry.
Or each state should create it’s own electoral college, distributing the votes county by county in much the same way we do at the federal level. That would be better for everyone as we’d never have anti-American Marxist dictator Presidents like Obama again.
But since neither of those things are going to happen, if the blue states want to secede then I say: buh bye, don’t let the door hit you on the ass.

Should Oregon secede, their first act will be to strictly control immigration through extreme vetting. All citizens of Oregonia will have to take a test. Anyone who understands irony will be deported.

Just the case of another lefty jerking off to the public. These states would never leave as it’s too lucrative to stay in. If they left the economy would be crippled within days, unemployment would soar, their money would be useless (if they decided to keep the greenback they really wouldn’t have any sovereignty), basic items would be hard to come by, the most talented people would attempt to get into the States (and probably be turned back) and finally you’d see the politicians being hung from lampposts as the first winter creates a massive die off.
Hell, the politicians would be the hangman, stringing up the little people for stealing THEIR food and heat.

Hey wait a minute, I live here in Oregon. Take a look at the county breakdown of the voting in the electoral college maps, 8 for HRC & 28 for DJT (and I’m in one of the 28). I know there is a lot of sarcasm and tongue in cheek “good riddance” going on (I’ve said the same for CA many times) but let’s not throw the baby out with the bathwater. Let me have a chance to move before you nuke Portland, I don’t want to get caught in the crossfire/fallout.
And 8/28 is why we should have the Electoral College system at the state level as well. No more Governors from Portland (and for WA no more Governors from King County).

You left behinds should just accept that cities really are that important. Most states with vast swaths of useless already acknowledge this with some take on “home rule” – where the only population centers that matter in the entire state are exempted from statewide laws (unless the city wants them to apply). The federal government should respect the elite cities they benefit from. A return to city-states, like Venice before the Italian hegemony, would be a noble step. Pick a population number (just pick a number – math is hard, and it really doesn’t natter), and designate all contiguous population centers larger than that number to be independent city-states, equivalent in all ways with the fields, forest preserves, and wastelands they are surrounded by. Yes, even give them their own federal senators (total federal representative numbers would remain unchanged, because of population, though the district lines might have to redrawn). I even say, if there is a naming conflict the city-state gets to keep it (unless they want to change it, of course). There need be no secession, no rancor, no more deplorable conduct. YOU should respect THEIR authority. They deserve it.
